Has anyone tried genetic testing to find a drug that supposedly works for you? If so was it helpful?
Genetic Testing: Has anyone tried... - Anxiety and Depre...
Genetic Testing
Yes I did it and it was very helpful in eliminating meds that might not work or have bad side effects. It was fascinating.
Yes but the top of the list was a medication I had been on with no help for ages and was essentially physically addicted to because the withdrawal was so bad. I'm not sure about the rest of the list, I never got a copy but I love the concept
Thank you, thats my concern, it may show drugs that I have already tried. but i'll try anything that may help. I totally understand the dependence issue. I have been on Adavan, 1mg for a few years, the dosage does not do much anymore, but when you try to stop, its terrible for at least 3-4 days. I understand they are addictive so Doctors dont like prescribing them because it can turn into a cycle of addiction. When I first started taking them it was like a miracle drug for my anxiety, but after a while you need more to get the same feeling, which is the trap you dont want to fall into.
what is this?? And how does it work? It sounds interesting and I'd like to maybe look into it
Yes, after trying numerous meds without success I did a test that used my dna to determine which meds were best for me genetically. The test showed that none of the meds I had tried before for depression were right for me. I started on one it recommended (pristiq) and it has worked well. My test was from Genesight and was paid for by my insurance. It has to be prescribed for you by your doctor or med provider.
I did the testing a few years ago and for me it was so inaccurate. What showed should work, didn't or gave me bad side effects. What showed wouldn't work had worked for me in the past and stopped working. I became treatment resistant to meds and my treatment of choice became TMS.
I have done genetic testing for psychiatric drugs which was somewhat helpful. I still took several drugs that did nothing for me til I found one recently that did. It's still a process.
