Rough evening

I had a rough evening. I have a really hard time communicating with my dad- who I live with. He feels like I am rude and lash out at him for everything (because he was said to me himself). And, I feel like he doesn't understand me. There is always a pending serious issue that he never wants to talk about. And usually ignores me through watching TV. In turn, making me really sad. Things would be great if I made enough money to move out on my own and rent wasn't so expensive everywhere. How do people do it?

I'm in the exact same situation with my mum. I try to understand where she is coming from and see things from her perspective and maybe I am being selfish.
