Social phobia

I've always felt afraid in public, as a kid I thought I'm probably just socially awkward or shy but as I grew up I discovered I've got social phobia aka Social anxiety disorder, I've learnt about its symptoms, not all but I suffer from most of them like sweating, chocking, chest pain,etc.. , my parents don't know about it, no one knows actually; I've seen some medicines on Internet to treat it; I've decided to buy them but they weren't found in the pharmacy so I'll search more( their names were Paxil and zoloft) But I don't want to spend my life taking drugs to treat what I have so I've decided to sign up here hopefully I can find some treatment.

Edit: I'm 16, I'm in high school, and I still live with my family at home.

Hi how old are you please and do you still live at home. It's hard to give you advice without knowing this.

Please do not buy anything from the internet as you don't know what is in it. I have heard of people doing this and becoming very ill from it. It can even cause death. The way to deal with this is to get help, so tell your parents and make sure you see a doctor for a proper diagnosis. If you need meds your doctor will prescribe safe ones for you. Counselling might also be able to help.

Don't risk your life on possible dodgy drugs from the internet! x

Hey, I'm 16 and yes I still live with my parents. I wasn't buying meds online, I just searched for some meds, I got their names and I went to an actual pharmacy to explain to the doctor my case and ask if the meds are suitable for me or not. I tried to talk to mom as we're so close but she didn't take it seriously like my parents don't actually know there's such phobia or disorder that exists, I tried even explaining the symptoms she just thought that I was being spoiled.

Thank goodness you didn't buy them online! Please only take them on a medical professionals advice. I think you should try and have some counselling as well. x

Can't I contact a psychiatrist online? Like just online help instead of going to an actual one?

in reply toRanim_

Haven't a clue. Why not google it and see what you find? If you did you would still have to pay though.

Yes, I agree. DON'T buy from the internet!

Not everything is what it says it is.

A PSYCHIATRIST should prescribe it to you based on what she/he will learn about you..everyone takes different doses at different stages of their recovery while still going to see a professional to watch how your body reacts to it...

I have social anxiety myself

Message me if you'd like to talk!

I'm here for you! :)

Hi, thank you so much but I tried to talk to mom as we're so close but she didn't take it seriously like my parents don't actually know there's such phobia or disorder that exists, I tried even explaining the symptoms she just thought that I was being spoiled so it's kinda difficult to go to a psychiatrist as my parents themselves don't know. How are holding up with it like how do you face it and deal with it?

I was diagnosed with social anxiety when I was 15, so I definitely sympathize with you. I was on Zoloft for about ten years for it, but all medications can have serious side effects so it's best to see a doctor and they can tell you what will be right for you. Good luck hun! Try to keep your head up.

Personally from what i have read i would suggest counselling, meditation and exercise before going the medication route. Young people are more prone to bad reactions on antidepressants. Just a thought, but i would definitely discuss with you doctor first

I honestly don't know anything about online docs. But google it and see what you can find. There are apps out there for counselling too.

Thank you so much❤ How do you keep up with it? Meds or is there other good ways that can help me instead of meds?

I know it sounds cliche but you just have to keep telling yourself, no matter how bad things get that it everything will work out in the end ok. No I don't take meds. I am going to be seeing a therapist soon though to help me deal with things properly.
