Hello. I'm new to this community and my first question is how do you deal with the fact that you're on anxiety medicine. I feel so broken because I have to take medicine and I might have to get a bigger dose or switch to a stronger one and that makes me so sad. I just feel broken like I'm not normal. Does anyone else feel this way? How do you deal with it?
Thanks in advance.

Blue aurora, I feel broken at times too. But not because I take meds, I think they are a blessing. Most of us who have anxiety and depression feel like we are broken. I have OCD,anxiety and depression. We are trying to mend and move on with life. I am 60 and have had this since I was a teenager. But it gets better with treatment. I hope you see a therapist, if you get one you like it can be great.
Yeah I don't know what id be like without my meds. But I think that's what scares me most. Is that I'm 23 years old and for the rest of my life I'll be battling this. And idk how to feel about that. Because it's hard enough to live with it now.
Hi BlueAurora. It took me a long time to come to grips that I am on anxiety medication as it made me feel weak and vulnerable. After going off it a long time ago, I realized that I needed it and have been on it for over 10 years. Now it's a routine taking my meds with morning coffee. How long have you been on medication? If you want to do what I did, go off it for awhile and see how you feel. If you become anxious again, that will be a sign that you need this medication to function. Don't let it be a big deal for you.
Just remember, if you had diabetis, and needed insulin shots every day, you wouldn't quit that would you? Make the best of it, you're only as broken as you want to be....start at the top of your head and work down, see how much of you isn't broken....best of health to you...
Hi Blue Aurora. I just wanted to say that I understand what you're going through. Having to take medication for something like anxiety can make you feel like you are somehow inadequate or abnormal. I've been there. But don't listen to those thoughts. Your main concern is doing what you have to in order to stay healthy and functional. I'm going to bet that a lot of people you rub shoulders with take medication for one thing or another. They choose to for their health and you need to do the same. And don't worry about what the rest of your life will hold. Focus on one day at a time as you do your best to move towards better health today. I know this can be difficult. Just do your best. Hang in there.
