Tips on getting started
Welcome. Mainly, with any exercises, start small and build up slowly.
If you have access to BBC iplayer there’s a show called “the truth about” and the episode “getting fit” covers Active 10 nicely. Basically it’s walking fast enough to not be able to sing, but still being able to talk in full sentences without struggling for breath. Depending on your current fitness, 10 minutes of this may not be possible yet, or maybe you can do 30. Like I said above, start small... A minute will help, 2 minutes more so... you’ll soon start to be able to do more and go longer than you can right now.
The idea is to get to 30 minutes of brisk walking a day and that is easier to fit into life in 10 minute chunks. The app measures in 10s but there’s no need to be too strict on this... 2 lots of 15 would only give 2 active 10s, but are as good as 3.
Getting to the target of 30 minutes a day will get you above the 150 minutes a week of heart raising exercises that the NHS recommends... add a couple of strengthening workouts in and you meet the fitness recommendations fully. NHS Strength and Flex is a great way to start that too, as it’s gentle and requires no equipment to be purchased. We have a forum for that here too healthunlocked.com/strength...
Exercise will get you fitter and help the mental health as well as making you live longer... all good! Weight loss normally needs a good nutritional plan, and our friends over at Weight Loss NHS have more knowledge than you’ll find in any diet books... they’re a supportive bunch too. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
Enjoy your journey to a fitter, happier, lighter you.
