It is best to start at your own level, the aim is to build up to 10,000 steps a day. I have been slowly building up since having surgery. The body responds better if you gently increases your distances and it helps to make It feel more natural. I would start with your normal day and see how many steps you take then work a plan to increase it every week untill you hit the 10,000 mark.
As RFC says, start at wherever you are. It's just good to get out there, set some goals to work towards and be active. I look forward to following your progress
Thank you for the advice. Is it only steps counted outside when walking or all steps such as housework etc
Many thanks
Chrissie
I used to belong to Ramblers until my second bunion operation (same foot needed a titanium plate to be inserted in big toe this time) last January. The surgeon has given me strict instructions to walk no more than a couple of miles a day until September as he wants to make sure everything knits together perfectly. So I am afraid that I shall have to wait until the autumn before I can start serious walking. I am struggling to walk a mile at the moment as I managed to pull a tendon last month and am due some physio as soon as it can be arranged.
