My GP has recommended taking progestogen-only pills to stop constant bleeding caused by progestogen-only implant - how will this help?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and just looking an explanation about something I'm confused about.

Back in September, I got a Nexplanon implant, a form of contraception which exclusively releases progestogen. For the last two months I've experienced constant menstrual bleeding (every single day) as a side-effect. Today I called the sexual health clinic and they recommended I start a 3 month course of progestogen pills to regulate/reduce the bleeding.

Out of curiosity, I would like to know why taking more progestogen will help, when I'm already taking it in the form of an implant?

There are plenty of resources out there about the overall menstrual cycle and how oestrogen and progesterone work together... but I can't find anything specifically about the effects of progesterone levels, & why an increase in the hormone can cause bleeding while a *further* increase in the hormone might stop bleeding.

If anyone understands this, please do share :)
