Hello all! I am looking for other peoples experiences with the progesterone only birth control pill. I have never been on any type of hormonal birth control and due to struggling with low iron, my doctor wants me to take the pill to give me a chance at building my iron stores back up.
I’ve only ever heard negative stories about the pill and now after so many years of avoiding it, I’m very anxious about having to take it. It’s leaving me feeling trapped. Would anyone recommend this form of birth control? Has anyone had any positive experiences with this pill?
Thank you all in advance.

I think everyone is different. I struggle with Progesterone, it makes me feel really awful and, with birth control I've never managed to get past the initial phase because I'm so miserable, but I've plenty of friends who say they're happy and it works really well for them.If you are amenable to it, I get the impression that having an iud is a better option because the hormones are localised.
My suggestion would be to try it and see how you do
Thank you very much for your reply! I appreciate you taking the time.
Thank you for being honest with your experience. It does make me feel better that at least some have had good experiences. I’ll look into the IUD option.
We are all different, some people get on well with the pill and others don't. I didn't get on well with it so eventually came off it. I also had low iron but manage it with diet and supplements. Do what feels right for you, but there are other options if the pill doesn't suit you.
Awe I'm sorry I can't help as I'm way past that stage at 64 lol I did use the pill and found it great my daughter is using the coil said its great so side effects ...sorry can't help more x
I didn't get on all that well with it, and stopped taking it about 14 years ago but still have a couple of the side effects that only started when I began birth control.
For me personally, I wouldn't really want to take it for other conditions, if there might be other options to explore first.
I don't know if you've looked at other dietary interventions in the past, but I've previously accidently made my ferritin levels too high by taking vitamin C supplements, do you take any vitamin C with your iron tablets? And is there a risk you're taking it too close to calcium supplements/foods (calcium stops ferritin absorption)?
Everyone is different so it will probably be a matter of fact of trying it yourself to see! I’m on the pill for heavy and painful periods but it doesn’t work all the time but I’ve not had an awful experience with it. My friends love it. I think it’ll be good to try it at least. You can always go back to the doctors and just let them know you feel terrible on it if you don’t like it 🙂
