I’m a 17 year old girl who has always struggled with really bad heavy and painful periods since I was 11, it was always the first three days where pain was worst I couldn’t move walk talk or eat as when I did I would just get attacked with a really bad shooting pain on my lower abdomen, Dorctors recommendation not going to school for those 3 days but trying to do small activities around the house as it could help with pain, which it never. As I got older I found my self just sitting in the toilet to relive my pain of sitting in a empty bath with the shower head pressed agasunt my stomach to help relive pain, as soon as I’m sat still with my painkillers k ikung in i would be fine but if I moved it would come back. It was stopping me from learning and going out and about and I knew something had to be done important exams were coming up! I am prescribed menafenic acid which doesn’t really help so often chose co-codomol. I went for a scan of my womb they said everything seemed fine but they couldn’t locate my left tube and overy and they put it down to not filling my bladder up all the way. I decided to go on the nexaplon implant in hope it would stop me from having periods which is a regular side effect which would result in no pain!. So I did it. And for 6 months I was bleeding very lightly but with no pain. The dr advised I’d go on the mini pill. Because she basically explained the implant isn’t letting out enough hormones for my body which isn’t ‘putting my overys to sleep’ within a week I had stopped bleeding it was brilliant. But then two months into taking the pill I had started bleeding again. This time it’s heavier and I’m having the exact same pain but constantly! Not as bad or severe but it’s stopping me from going into college. I’ve been suffering with these bad periods for nearly 7 years. I’ve got a appt to see a gynaecologist at my local gp in the next few weeks but has anyone else experience anything similar and is there a a underline problem? I’ve obviously used dr google which I know I shouldn’t of but is there a chance this sounds like endometriosis? Will I always be in pain every month. It affects my daily life and I’m really struggling. I thought it was all coming to a end but it’s came back. Please help!!

We can help
I used to suffer something awful - I would be bedridden in pain and feeling so light headed for the first day.
The pill helps, but it really just masks symptoms, it doesn't address what's actually wrong.
For me, magnesium supplement were a total game changer - I took a decent quality magnesium citrate supplement (avoid cheap magnesium supplements, they're more of a laxative than a supplement) at a higher dose for a month. I also eat foods containing ginger in the week before, as that is a great anti-inflammatory. The 2 together mean I sometimes don't realise my period has started now, the pain is so mild.
I will send a link for a great podcast to help you understand how the pill impacts hormones, and has some tips for how to deal with the symptoms it masks:

Sorry, I think I wanted this instead of the first link, but the first link is still good for understanding what's going on with your cycle, so I'll leave it there.
