Expected Weight Loss
Hi,
This depends on your weight originally and approximately how many calories you eat before you reduce them. Bigger people originally lose weight faster due to a bigger calorie difference.
However, if you only eat 1400 calories a day, your body gets use to the calorie deficit if you do not exercise also as your metabolism slows to compensate for the reduced calories. From all I have read, if you are of average size and stick to 1400 with moderate exercise you can expect to lose around 1-2lb per week which is a healthy weight loss and effective in the long term. If you want to lose more, though not recommended by health professionals, then dont be tempted to cut calories. You need to step up your exercise. You can do this by walking hills instead of flats, walking faster or for longer.
Hope this helps you.
Hi Keira4joe,
I presume you have looked at the nhs weight loss plan and are wondering about the calorie count.
Technically, women should eat around 2000 cals per day. A 1lb weight loss is equivalent to a 3500 reduction in calories across the week which is 500 calories a day.
It all depends on the individual though - I stuck to a 1400 cal a day (some more, some less but average 1400), did an extra gym session, a snowboard lesson and an afternoon shopping and in my first week lost 2.2lbs.
Most other people haven't lost this much but have lost at least 1lb.
You can also take your measurements and compare them week by week. Sometimes you can lose inches and not lbs.
Have a look around here at the blogs and q's and if you choose to start the plan - good luck
