Weight loss: Hi - how many times a week... - Weight Loss Support
Weight loss
Hi and welcome
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊
Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey
It's actually much more important for weight loss to concentrate on what you are eating rather than exercising a lot. 80% diet and 20% exercise....

Unless you've a lot to lose, losing 2 stone in a couple of months is likely to be quite hard going... as it's best to aim for on average 1lb of weight loss a week - so in 2 months, you could expect to lose about 9/10lb?
Do you have a specific target date? For example, an occasion or a holiday?
Please do take a look at Hidden 's welcoming post, and look at the 12 week plan. It outlines a really achievable way of losing weight safely and consistently.
What's more, you're more likely to keep the weight off.
I'm sticking to a strict 1500 calories a day gym twice a week and swimming once a week
That may not be enough calories Ellie0210
As Pineapple has suggested, please read Cracker's suggestions and work out the correct calorie target for you 😊
It said 1400-1900! I've got a hen do in November and then a wedding in February
1500 is a little on the low side but you are the best judge of how you feel, if you are eating enough you will feel energised and healthy 😊
A safe and healthy rate of FAT loss (which is what we all want isn't it?) is between 1-2 lbs per week, so in 8 weeks you could potentially lose 8-16 lbs. 😊 More importantly, with exercise and the right balance of nutrients your health and fitness will improve as well as your appearance.
Good luck and best wishes for your hen party and wedding!
I see your BMI range states 1400 - 1900 calories - I like you started at the lower end and couldn't work out why I didn't lose weight (my range was similar to yours)
I then upped the calories to 1700 and I started to lose weight - then I started to maintain and because I was still on 1700 cals I could then lower that to 1600 for a few weeks and I started to lose again
So please think about eating at the higher range to start with (Learn from my mistakes ) - just for a couple of weeks and see if /how much you lose then the following week if you have lost carry on until you maintain then lower by 100 cals.
Hope this helps you
Your best chance of success, having read your exercise regime... is to ensure that you eat AT LEAST half of the calories you earn through your exercise, as otherwise, you'll not be eating enough.
I hope that 2 x gym visits and a swim every week is something that you are able to maintain? It doesn't sound too much, and it's good that you have taken account of your calorie allowance.
Do make sure that you try to keep a log of how many calories you are eating though, as it's not always wise to "guesstimate" - it's very easy to regularly go over calories and then with all your best intentions with the exercise, you may find that you're struggling to lose.
Don't forget too that exercise (if you weren't already doing it regularly) will build up muscle mass - muscle weighs more. But you may also find to start with that you retain water, as the muscle retains water after exercise in order to repair itself.
Exercise will not build up muscle mass unless it is progressive overload resistance exercise (lifting heavy weights and heavier each week) and you are in caloric surplus. You cannot add muscle mass by doing cardio exercise and you can not add muscle mass if you are in caloric deficit.
First of all you need to have a food plan. If not you will go off the "diet" which is what it is called by no means of heathier eating which is for a life time. Exercise is secondary. 3 times per week with a day of a break in between not to overtire your muscles. And if you do weight training make slow and easy. Good luck with your journey!!
