Hi I am enjoying the NHS Weight loss app but does anyone else have the trouble of bringing it up on their phone please. I have to go into the Google play store every morning to open the app.
I am enjoying the app however now I am getting used to it. I have lost 1 lb in 2 weeks. I have a long way to go I know but it has taken me 2 weeks to reduce my calories. I load every little thing onto the app, teas coffees the lot and I didn't realise how many calories I was having. Onwards and upwards. Hopefully another 1 lb next week.

Good morning Garden4me and welcome to our friendly peer to peer suport forum. It's a few years since I used the NHS app but I know some of our members are currently using it, so i'm sure they'll jump in and help with your app issue.
I too loved the app, it really helped me understand what portion sizes were and got me back to enjoying putting thought into the meals I made.
As I said above this is a peer to peer support forum and we have several Pinned Posts to help you connect with other members, here's a link so you can find them easily. healthunlocked.com/weight-l...
We recommend members get involved, as a minimum, in the Weekly Weigh In (chose a day to suit you) and The Daily Diary where we share our menus and anything else about our day that we want to share or get advice about.
Take a good look around and you'll soon feel at home and amongst friends.
Good luck on your weight loss journey and we look forward to "seeing" you around xx
Make sure you check out all the activities via the link that springers has given you: you'll find members friendly and helpful - and we all need some company along the way
Good to hear you’re getting on well with the NHS app, apart from logging in 😊
I’ve got the app on my phone and just got in okay, so checked on line and there’s a suggestion that people using Google may need to update Google chrome. I hope you find a solution to the clunky logging in.
Hi 88cev88 and thank you for joining in with our forum. Are you on a weight loss journey yourself? If you are i'll give you our full welcome, if not that's ok too. I'm giving you a Visitors badge for now xx
Thank you! I’m trying to be but I live in a group home for the disabled where they cook all my meals and they are not working with me when I’ve been asking for healthier food.
Oh that must be very difficult 88cev88. I've always thought hospitals were like that when i've had to stay in after operations. You'd think they would the epitome of healthy eating, along with the group home you are in.
I'm sorry I have no suggestions that might help you but feel free to chat on here whenever you want to xx
Hi again, I asked the admin team here if they had any thoughts on what might help. We don't know if its possible but we wondered if you (and others that live in the home) would be allowed to do any cooking (on the assumption you can) under the guise of learning skills. You could ask to choose your own recipes and we have plenty of those in our Topics area xx
Calories are an irrelevant property of various foods, the important thing is keeping you insulin levels down by avoiding carbohydrates which mostly metabolise into glucose and some into a mixture of glucose and fructose (which is processed by the liver and eventually ends up as glucose and a few other things like uric acid hich causes gout. Insulin drives energy storage in the form of body fat and causes inflammation in the body hich is the cause of arthritis.
Yes I agree Eryl thanks. I once went to a diet class run by a diabetic nurse which was cutting the carbs all of them from the word go then once the weight starting coming off you bring the carbs back in slowly until a balance is maintained. Its the only diet class I attended which worked for me, I was much younger than now mind. The problem was I moved away from the area and lost track. I don't want to focus on cutting all my carbs out alltogether however. I'm trying to make it all balance. So I have found counting my calories works better for me. Alreaady I have found I have been underestimating what I have been eating. When I look at all the calorific values of something I can work out how much or little I can have of something. So I'll keep a check and see how it goes. Thanks for your comment though.
But why would you want to bring carbs back? There's no essential nutrition in carbs, they're pure energy. The body has a mechanism for making any blood sugar it needs from protein (called gluconeogenesis) and it produces just enough, never an excess, so you needn't consume any carbohydrate at all.
