Hello everyone and welcome to the Fit is Fun Club!
Fit for Fun is an all inclusive club to cover all activity and all abilities and the aim is for each of us to highlight our preferred activities and give us all new ideas for exercise.
This thread will be open from Monday 17th to Sunday 23rd May.
The idea is for you to post your exercise achievements from last week and your proposed goals for this coming week. This will not be a competition but declared plans are easier to stuck to and encouragement and support from fellow members are good motivators.
If you are used to post photos please feel free to post as many as you wish.
So this week I just cycled a bit and did 2 online gym sessions. I hope to do more next week.
After trying to avoid sugar during 30 days and not really losing any weight at all (I probably ate some hidden sugars) this week I decided to give the LCHF diet a fair try.
Let’s see if I lose some weight this week. The problem is that I can’t really exercise as much as I’d like to because of my back pain.
I’ll be happy to read all about your achievements and your goals for next week!
Hello and thank you for hosting this week- sorry that your back is not sorted- do you know what is causing it? I had a good week last week- reached all my targets (6/7 days of 10000+ steps and 3 Wii sessions )i managed 481 mins of brisk exercise (166mins of Wii and 315mins brisk walking), 96850 steps last week so reaching 68.2km which I am very pleased with though did have the assistance of my friend's dog Alfie for 1 day- none this week
This week it will be a bit more of a challenge since I am going up to see my parents on Wednesday so it will be a challenge to get up to 10,000 steps since my parents are elderly 91+87) So I will aim for 7500 steps (which is what research has found to be optimum health benefits) for 5 days and only 1 session of Wii (today) since I am at work tomorrow and got a couple of early appointments on Wednesday before I leave for the NE of England. I will try and go for a daily walk to try and boost my steps and hopefully achieve the 7500 steps though the weather forecast is not looking good- intermittent showers!
I found it really interesting to find out that 10,000 steps was just an arbitrary figure chosen by a Japanese company to market their product. I hope you have a good trip to see your parents and find ways to keep moving.
Good luck with adjusting your eating and exersize this week Hidden . I've not been on top of things and skipped all 4 workouts for the first time since I started my routine (at start of September) and didn't bother with morning stretches either. It was partly down to prioritising other things such as having tradespeople in/ needing to work later on my short days and partly down to feeling a bit rubbish, not helped by poor eating.
This week it will be about getting back into routine, even if the workouts are a bit gentler the main thing is that I just do them on Tuesday /Saturday (Chloe Ting) and Thursday/ Sunday (resistance bands). Plus stretches every morning.
Aww sorry that life got in the way last week Greendream, but your fitness streak from September is impressive!!🙆🏻♀️🎉 Hope you're having a better week 💐
First time I’ve got involved in this post - so I’ve built 50 mins of brisk walking into my daily routine using the Active10s app. I live in a seaside town at the top of a steep hill. Last week I challenged myself to walk down to the seafront and then come back up the hill using different flights of steps each day - I surprised myself that I ascended 40-50 steps without having to stop for a breather yesterday😀 I’ve also started attending Zoom yoga classes twice a week which I’m really enjoying. So, I just want these activities to be a normal part of my everyday life.
Absolutely - after such a big weight gain during shielding and getting over the loss of my mother and my partner of 20 years leaving me, it feels incredible to be back out in the world and making so many positive changes. I just need the support of everybody to make the changes stick for life
What great ideas! I'm imagining those seaside steeps being very steep, that's amazing that you're seeing progress and combining the walking with yoga too.
That's fantastic YoYo! 🙆🏻♀️🎉🙆🏻♀️🎉 Using the Active 10 app alongside a step tracker is a game changer isn't it?!And your part of the world sounds stunning ~ lucky you! ☺
Good morning Hidden & thanks for hosting. I’m really sorry that your back is still not better. Back pain is horrible as it effects so much .It has been really wet this week here so the one day that it wasn’t raining when I finished work I went for a 4km walk around my local nature reserve (photos attached) .
So my stats are 114 active minutes out of a total 118 minutes walk (according to the Active 10 App (when I remembered to take my phone with me 😊)
I also did 30 minutes on the cross trainer so managed the magic 150 minutes of exercise this week.
It’s due to be wet most of this week so I may not get much walking done so I plan to do 2 to 3 20 minutes sessions on the cross trainer this week.
I think everywhere in the UK will be getting some rain over the next few days. Mind you I have managed more steps today than expected despite driving up to my parents though that was because I had 2 appointments before leaving one at the hospital and one for a massage then driving straight up north. Got to hospital appt and realised forgot Kindle so since I had time drove back home collected the Kindle and then couldn’t remember if I’d locked the front door so parked the car (it took me ages to get onto the main road) and walked home- I had locked it. Then since I no longer get free parking and all the streets around the hospital are for residents only so had a 15 mins walk there and back so over 10000 steps which so wasn’t expecting. Didn’t get massage since the owner just had a staff member ring to say she was covid positive she was ill on Saturday do she was having to close it- a very frustrating morning😟
Hello, I’ve not been on here properly for a long long time. I do have a look occasionally to see what’s going on. I would like to join the Fit is Fun club please as I’m really not fit at all. With a few issues of being overweight and ‘on the older’ side. Plus a very minor heart issue, which I know would be a lot better if I was to be fitter.
So, at present, as I’ve done the weight loss so many times, without success (my own fault) I’d like to join your club, that’s if you’d have me. It’s a different approach for me. And I’ve hidden my scales from myself, just for a month.
I hope you will accept me, I’ve missed this forum, people are always lovely and supportive.
You are very welcome! Fit is Fun is for everybody who wants to exercise, and set some goals or «mini-goals » for next week and get some support.
It can be anything, like walking, swimming, cycling... It doesn’t have to be a lot at all, it can be walking 20 minutes / day and a mini-goal could be to try and walk 25 minutes daily; but this is just an example.
You remind me of me: I’ve hidden my scales from myself my whole life before I joined this forum. Sometimes it’s still hard for me to step on my scale every week!🤣
I’ll be happy to read about your exercise achievements and your goals.
Nice exercise! 👍Covid is difficult for everyone... I’m happy that you recovered from Covid and got the vaccine.
Where I live, I still didn’t get my vaccination because they say that I’m «too young » and don’t have any chronic disease. I hope to get my vaccine in June or July...
I’ll be happy to read about your goals for next week. More gardening? Walking?
Hi Cockneyblue do you have an idea of how you will get moving a little more? I'm really enjoying my walks because a) I get out in nature b) I don't have to pay anything to do it c) I get to wave and chat to other walkers d) you can start with short bursts of 10 mins and then build up from there e) sometimes my friends join me for a socially distance walk and bring their gorgeous dogs with them, so I get a lovely stroke in as well!
I’m not really a lover of walking but my daughter and her partner are getting a puppy next week, so that will probably encourage me to walk again. When I had my own dog, many years ago, I loved walking him. I’m enjoying this even if it is only a couple of days. Thank you again
Great you're getting into gardening though - I love growing my veggies. My lawn will be waist high though, if it rains any more and I can't get the mower out soon!
Well they have to wait until the puppy is a year before can go for long walks- they need to build up and only fo 5 mins walk initially. My sister have a young dog and she had to build up the minutes gor walking- I think it was 5 mins extra each month
You don’t need to ask! Have you been here before or not? If not all you need to do is let us know what your exercise goals are this week- do many days exercising or going for walks. Steps per day- I sometime say I want to achieve so many steps for 5-6 days depending on my shifts- if I’m on nights I don’t get to do much when I’ve finished night. This week I’ve lowered my target since I’m with my elderly parents so will have reduced opportunities to get out for a walk or go exercise- though saying that I thought today since I’d be spending most of it driving I wouldn’t fo many steps I got over 10000! Hopefully you get the idea then next week (it goes from Mon-Sun) you let us know how you did with your targets
Thank you. RG07, I’ve been gardening and doing 5k steps per day. I know it’s not much to start but this is doing my mental health so much good. I feel I have a purpose again.
I’m only doing pots and tomato plants. We have lovely neighbours who mow the lawns back and front and keep the bushes and big plants under control. They are brilliant. After they have worked so hard, we all sit in the garden and have cheese, biscuits and wine. It’s a very enjoyable afternoon on a Monday 👍
Hey Hidden and everyone 👋 I'm a 50-odd gal, currently in the Very early stages of sobriety, with over 4st to lose. I signed up to walk 100 miles in June to raise money for Sands the stillborn&neonatal death charity, so I'm working on increasing my step count to at least 10ksteps a day. I also use the Active 10 app together with my Fitbit, and love seeing how many brisk minutes I walked..This was yesterday..

Thank you! Looking forward to my physio appointment this week!
Awesome job! It's great to get outdoors isn't it - I started by sticking on my headphones and listening to music to motivate me but, this week, I'm making an effort to have mindful walks. It was only yesterday that I realised how far away, up the hill, I can still hear the waves lapping - although the seagulls do make quite a bit of noisy chatter too😂
Wow I’m impressed I don’t think I could manage 100m walk! I did a marathon length walk 26m for charity and by the end I was walking as though I was drunk. Probably didn’t help that it was the London moonwalk so it started at 12mn and finished at 8:30am! We got back to the hotel to have a doze and wash before we had to check out at 11!
