How to control weight gain in pregnancy

Hi, After 6 long years and many rounds of IVF I’m in my first trimester, but I have a BMI of 31, (5ft 3 and 13stone). I don’t want to pile on too many pounds during pregnancy, have any of you got any recommendations as to how I control weight gain?

Hello Becatoms and welcome to this amazing forum. Firstly huge congratulations for your pregnancy.

In the same way that you planned for this happy event , you can plan your meals and the type of food you eat. I think you should also ask advice from your doctor or whoever is following you. This site with all its different members, can help keep you on track but we're not medically qualified.

I strongly suggest you read and contribute to the Daily Diary and participate in a Weekly Weigh in.

You will find there's loads of tips about better eating, from other members. Sharing your daily menu not only helps you stay committed, it can help other members too.

I suggest you spend some time clicking about to find your way around. It's easier if you have a lap-top as there are several threads. If you’re using another device I strongly suggest that you use the web page as opposed to the app at least until you know your way around.

Have a good read of the pinned post “Welcome Newbies” and follow every thread.

Good luck I hope to "see " you around.

Many congratulations, Becatoms :)

As Tabby says, it's worthwhile talking to your midwifery and medical team for any specific advice. However, you can't go far wrong by eating real, fresh food, home cooked, avoiding processed foods and any 'products' with a long list of ingredients on the label, or ingredients that you don't understand.

Treat your body well: it has an important and wonderful job to do for you :)

Congratulations! I'd suggest being mindful of any cravings that arise. For me, I wanted sweet treats like apple pie and pancakes most of the time. 🤣
