Hi. I've been on Fostair unhaler for 2 years for early COPD, but despite being active, going swimming, aquafit twice weekly, lots of walking and a stretch aerobics class, my weight remains the same . I'm overweight and have a high BMI but despite being careful with my diet, can't seem to shift any weight. GP says Fostair is not responsible. I'm 70 yrs old. Any ideas what I can do please?

Hello Foreverwishing,

First of all, congratulations on keeping fit, although it must feel frustrating if you seem to be doing all the right things and your weight isn't changing.

One thing that seems to work for members is tracking their food and exercise. There are a number of ways to do this and they don't need to be expensive, but they do help you make sure for example, that your portion sizes haven't crept up.

Others use a particular approach such as reducing carbs or intermittent fasting. It all very much what suits you and works.

I know you've been here before, but it was a little while ago, so I've included all the groups we have going at the moment in the link below. You might recognise DailyDiary, Weigh In, Fit is fun, for example. Joining in with these and the other groups really can help. The peer support here is amazing, and you can pick up some new ideas along the way.

Good luck 🤞🏼

Welcome, good to have you here :)

I'd say it's worthwhile looking at what you eat: 'being careful' may not be as helpful as making real changes. Here's a very simple plan, adaptable to individual tastes phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

And do drop in to the regular posts that Grigid pointed you to in her reply: that's the best place for sharing ideas, as well as getting and giving support :)

Hi Foreverwishing, great to hear that you have been keeping a very healthy lifestyle!

Careful with your diet I would say is too general of a statement for any assessment that I can make. What I can say is to cut out sugar intake as much as you can. (A dessert bi-weekly would be acceptable)

And no snacking, even if you do snack, do it healthly with dark chocolate (90%-100%) and baked nuts like almonds and cashews unless you are allergic to them.

Not what you're looking for?
