I'm new here - and really need to do something about weight gain that I think has to do with commuting.
My weight has always gone up and down, but since I've been commuting daily it has accelerated upwards. What used to be a weekly treat has become daily!
I tend to eat healthily during the day, but when I get back, I'm exhausted and a little wound up and I eat snacks and have a couple of beers to unwind. I know that I'm not doing myself any favours but any resolution I make in the morning has usually evaporated by the evening and I go and buy myself some beer and crisps!
However, I do know that if I can avoid these snacks and drinks until dinner the danger time is passed, and I don't tend to indulge at any other time, so the plan is to try to use the time before dinner to do the couch to 5k programme and other distracting things along with making meals a bit healthier and see how it goes.

I know that feeling.... As soon as I get home I'm starving! I'm not an expert but you could plan and prepare so you have a healthy snacks ready ... Boiled eggs, ham or cold meats. You could make a crustless quiche... Basically in a muffin tin .. mix eggs a splash of milk, add what you like chose from ..Peppers, mushrooms, cheese, and meat, and veg. Cook until firm. Keep in. The fridge ready ... Or make some soup ...Super cheap and filling. I have bought a soup maker 22 minutes to make and it's blended intake it to work with me!

Thanks for the replies. I've got my calorie allowance for the day and it's more than I was expecting. I think that's where I've gone wrong in the past - cutting down to 1500 or so and then just being so hungry that I can't stick to it. 2100 seems manageable.
This seems like a really active and supportive community which will help too!
Lots of sympathy for the stressful commute! When I joined this forum I was commuting 3.5hrs a day across London, which was terrible, would make me so wound up (using 4 different types of transport :o) and I would comfort eat or eat small unhealthy snacks to keep me going from end of work to getting home. (Luckily my commute is only 30mins.)
Great that you are starting c25k. I have found that running is a great stress reliever to burn off some of that nervous energy you get from your commute/work in general. You will finish your runs feeling so much more relaxed, and the more you dedicate your time to it, the less you will want to jeopardise your progress with unhealthy eating. That's been my experience anyway.
Oh and if you ever find yourself wavering (for me, collapsing on the sofa after work can make me reluctant to head out for a run) have a read through this forum to get some motivation. It is great!
