Need inspiration.

I was 166kg over 365lb I had watched a programme the night before on Las Vegas and there was a restaurant there where if you weighed more than 350lb you could eat for free. Something just clicked in my brain.

I knew if I didn’t sort myself out I would probably not see 50.

That was 78 days ago 22nd April 2020. I now weigh 139kg 306lb and all I have done is I have stopped eating between meals I have stopped takeaways. Also I eat fresh food not processed or frozen. My knees don’t hurt anymore I can walk and walk and walk without pain. I have also lost 6 inches from my waist my shirts overlap like a dressing gown would rather than the buttons popping under the pressure.

But today is a funny day I think there’s a wall in front of me I am craving for my old life of eating everything and anything I don’t know what’s wrong with me......

Hello Onlyfoolsandhorses and a very warm welcome to the best weight loss support forum there is! You have done amazingly well, and made some really positive changes to your eating behaviour that will help you on your weight loss journey 👍👏😊

If you haven't already taken it, here's a tour of the forum healthunlocked.com/?tour to help you find your way around. I suggest you start with Pinned Posts and the Welcome Post, then the Group Weigh-in and the meal planning post called Daily Diary. Please ask if you have any questions

Best wishes in your weight loss journey

That's a huge loss and great process. I don't have the answers but reading your post made me think that whatever you are doing is clearly working, but if you are facing a wall of cravings, perhaps something needs to be done about those hunger and craving pangs.

Possibility 1: my understanding is that foods with high carbs and sugars are more hunger inducing, so could it be you are eating so little, but still eating enough carbs or some sugar so that the hunger pangs are continuing? You've managed for 11 weeks, but for a diet to be sustainable it needs to be comfortable and enjoyable for your body to proceed.

Possibility 2: you may be dieting so fast that the body is trying to go into 'starvation mode' and doing its best to make you want to eat. Adding some more healthy fats to your diet, including yoghurt, cheese or full fat diary products might help reduce hunger. It would likely reduce the speed of weight-loss but perhaps it would be easier to keep it going for longer as you wouldn't feel you are hitting a wall.

As your weight reduces you may reach a point where a running programme such as 'Couch to 5k' becomes viable. Increasing exercise would be one way to offset increased foot intake so that weight-loss continues sustainably.

As IndigoBlue61 suggests, it's well worth discussing food choices in the diary thread on here as the devil is in the detail.

You didn't come this far to only come this far.

Wow! That is an incredible story, well done you for taking the bull by the horns and doing something, and well done for your amazing loss.

As a Maintainer I can only tell you that you will always have those days when you crave something you shouldn’t really have, and sometimes you will give in. But it’s not the end of the world. You just have to pick yourself up, dust yourself down and keep keeping on. Think of those graphs we keep seeing on TV for the virus infections. Some days are up, most are down, so the overall weekly trend is downwards. And that’s what you are aiming for.

Coming for help, advice, support, commiserating and congratulating on this forum will be the best aid towards success. I wish you all the best!

Well done Onlyfools.... I started at 322lb around 8 weeks ago, I've hit my first goal of dipping under 300lb and now concentrating on getting to sub 280.

I think the think with dieting is to still allow yourself to have some treats. For example I will still have a takeaway from time to time, but will make sure that I log it and try to get some physical activity in to earn it. I like salad and healthy foods, but sometimes its good to have a little of what you fancy! I've been good all week, and yesterday I really fancied some peanut M&Ms, so I had some.... not the whole share/grab bag as I would have done previously, but enough to make me happy, and logged them.... granted it tipped me over my daily calorie limit, but I have many other days when I am under.

Keep up the great work!!

Hello and a very warm welcome Sedge and very well done on your weight loss so far, a fabulous result 👍👏🎉

I agree totally about making the process enjoyable as well as achievable by eating foods you enjoy but gaining knowledge of portion size.

If you haven't already taken it, here's a tour of the forum

I found this video interesting. It's a formerly obese bariatric surgeon talking about the underlying causes of obesity. 50% of people who have bariatric surgery put the weight back on again, according to him because they haven't fixed the problem that caused the weight gain.

Maybe you are in a similar place: you have been amazingly successful over the last few months (well done!), but now the issues (physiological or psychological) that you have been suppressing for 78 days are coming charging back.
