Just been to doctors for contraception only to be told I am seriously obese and need to lose weight before she will prescribe the pill again I am 47 and feel my age is against me a few years back I was just eight and half stone but now weigh 12 and half. I have lost a stone since Christmas but only by walking for half an hour each day and cutting back on portion size but now it has stopped coming off! I feel really down as it isn't like I haven't been trying and my new partner is really overweight and doesn't see any reason to lose any which isn't helping. So need some motivation and tips on what really works! Thank you for your help.

Feeling really down - need some encouragement
Hi, I no how u feel, would u consider using the gym? 3 time's a week, u don't have to spend hours in there. Just a half an hour would do for now, then increase to 40 minutes when u r ready. I find music helps when I'm in the gym. Weight training have so many benefits. It will help to get rid of the blues. Have a sleep after the gym, also eat a peace of mango after your work out it helps to break the fat up. Good luck don't give in
Thank you so much for the support and advice.
That's for the reply. I will look at the links.
Well I think that losing a stone is a massive achievement as is walking 30 mins a day. I''m 49 and gone right up to a size 18 from a 10/12 so not too dissimilar. Seems you are further ahead in the game though as I haven't even fully committed as yet. However i put out a call for buddies and got responses so we are weighing in on Saturday's and going to be an encouragement to one another. Please join us.x
Hi Rosiebex, Walked 7 miles this morning. I am using that sportstracker app to record everything I am doing. Yes you are right loosing a stone is a great achievement and this morning I just feel plain angry at my doctor who totally dismissed my efforts. She wants me to lose 4 and half stone which would bring me down to 8 stone - I have never weighed that little before (the lowest I have ever been is 8 and half and that was 14 years ago). I think it is a lot harder to lose weight once you are the wrong side of 40. I wish you loads of luck in your quest to loose weight. Yes I would love to join you online we can all encourage each other x
Hey Bubbles00, I have a cat called Bubbles and she's ginger and chubby and cute. Just thought I'd try to put a smile on your face - hope it did. If not, you can imagine yourself throwing something at me. haha
Now seriously, I understand how you feel, but keep going and don't get discouraged. Have your GP checked your thyroid? If you have an under-active thyroid it can be very difficult to lose weight. I know this might sound disgusting to some, but eating raw vegetables (carrots, courgettes, mushrooms etc.) is an effective way to lose weight as they help break down enzymes which helps speed up the metabolism. Of course eat some grilled meat and fish as well, but try and cut out rice, pasta and potatoes all together - it will be difficult in the first 3 days (it was for me), but after the initial 3 days your body gradually stops craving them).
I'm sorry that your partner is not helping you, but if I were you, I would keep going just to show him you can do it on your own! When he's seen what you've achieved he might change his mind and join in, but if he doesn't, who knows, you might change your mind about him...
I know it's easy to talk, but hang in there! I'm in the same boat girl! I need to lose 16 kilos myself for health reasons, so I have devised an eating plan where I can eat what I want, but in moderation and I will get through this and so will you. I'll be thinking of you. x
Your cat sounds lovely Chose Bubbles because I used to be a scuba diver.
I've never heard that about raw veg but certainly something to try and have decided I must cut back on carbohydrates and not have them for every meal.
Just wanted to thank everyone for all your help and wish you all luck on your journey to health and happiness x
You too x
I have a new partner of three yearswho can eat anything without putting on weight. Which is one of the reasons I have put on weight. He realises that it is making me unhappy and is been supportive. You can do this . Talk to him about how you feel even if he is happy the way he is
