LCHF and plum tomatoes?

Hi, sorry if this is a stupid question but been doing google searches and finding all kinds of answers on tomatoes and not sure what to make of it.

I absolutely love plum tomatoes in particular, I have a tin of organic ones and these are the nutrition numbers per 100g:

Energy 85kj/20kcal

Carbohydrate 3.0 g Of which sugars 3.0g

Protein 1.2 g

Salt 0.05g

(sorry if it looks weird, having to translate from Danish and not sure how the english is usually worded)

I am doing well (I think) not having much in the way of carbs/sugar but would not like to ruin the week having tomatoes if they aren't really allowed. I did eat some thin slices of fresh tomato yesterday, but am a bit confused to be honest about them.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi gintyc, tomatoes (plum or otherwise) are absolutely fine on an LCHF diet. I eat them every day :)

These visual guides may help dietdoctor.com/low-carb/vis... and this is all about carbs in tomatoes medicalnewstoday.com/articl...

Remember, no question is stupid and your English is perfect :)

Thank you! I am extremely happy as I think I have a bit of an addiction to them if I have eggs at breakfast in particular. Brilliant, I have now got the guides saved on my bookmarks bar which should really help, thanks. I am actually English, but lived in Denmark a while and I get everything mixed up haha. Thanks again! Looking forward to tomatoes for tomorrow's breakfast now 😜

Thanks for the question, I love tomatoes too, and being also on lchf diet wondered if I was eating too many. X🍅

Try not to eat them too late in the day so that your blood sugars have time to go down and stay down for longer overnight. You do not mention intermittent fasting (time restricted eating) but if you try to eat within an eight hour window i.e skip breakfast/ eat your evening meal earlier, that will haves benefits.

Thanks Eryl, I am not on intermittent fasting yet, I am only on day 5 but I am feeling less hungry in the evenings for sure so I am hoping it might be easy to do before too long. I am so clueless about things like blood sugars so I really appreciate you saying, I will hopefully learn more as I go along. Have a good day :)

It took me a while to get into intermittent fasing, licelong habits are hard to break but you're on the right track.

I love plum tomatoes, fresh preferably but tinned are better than nothing. Especially with black pepper ground over them, yum!

Oh where would we be without black pepper, yum :D

Hi gintyc I follow a low carb diet and took my figures from our NHS website, which rates a low carb eating plan as under 60g of carbohydrate. I have some days when I have hardly any, then, like today I will have some pasta, so a little higher. Tomatoes are so tasty , I hope you go on enjoying. Have a lovely day
