Hi everyone. Hope you all had a good christmas. I`ve battled weight gain all my adult life. I know all about yo-yo dieting and that it is no good!
I`ve been a full time wheelchair user for around 17 years and am several stones overweight. I NEED to shed some stones and wonder if anyone else is a wheelie like me?
Look forward to getting to know you.

Hello Boudica11052 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum 😊
We have members who are also wheelchair users, or have other restrictions on movement and exercise. At the end of the day, it’s all about calorie restriction and if you use the NHS BMI checker it will work out the correct calorie target for you, taking into account the level of your activity 😊
I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link
You'll find all the information you need to navigate the forum in the header and a link to the 12 week plan, so please take the time to read it carefully.
Hi Anna and thankyou for your quick reply!. I am going to attend an NHS weight loss programme locally in the new year. I have registered and am waiting for start details. I am unable to get weighed as I cant stand. But I will be able to see my weight loss via my clothes and shape. My carers have already seen a `dent` around my midriff, as I began dieting 8 weeks ago. Of course I`ve indulged over the christmas period...who hasn`t ?
We don’t actually separate our members Boudica11052 but if you search for wheelchair users you may get some results. The ‘search’ box is to the top right of the screen.
What we all have in common is battling our eating, 😊
Welcome, I understand how difficult it must be for you to be in a wheelchair and I don't know what it is like because I have never been confined to one. However, we do have members with all kinds of difficulties and at least on that is a wheelchair user.
Come on regularly and get to know people and you will pick up some great advice.
Hi there! I'm also a wheelchair user, following a spinal cord injury in 2012. I lost 3.5 stone last year by doing this 12 week plan and then continuing to eat sensibly and exercise regularly. I've maintained for a year and then recently lost almost another half stone.
For me, the hardest thing was getting into exercise, as my upper body was weak but I set myself goals and built up my strength and stamina and now I'm pretty strong and fit.
Hope you enjoy being part of this group and that you lose weight soon.
hellooooo Boudica11052 and welcome!!! I am sorry I am not a wheelie but I understand about the struggles with exercise. I cannot walk very well as I have major arthritis in my knees and ankles so I cannot walk long distances. I don't have much advice on how to exercise, again sorry! but I can tell you what I do to lose weight. I use smaller plates with lots of veggies and little everything else on it. I live in Texas so I have to be careful as everything here is bigger including the portions. but chin up doll! this can be done! please read and post as often as you can and you will soon see the pounds fall off if you change your way of life. I see it that way instead of as a diet because I cannot diet. I have tried that all my life and this new way of living works so much better for me. if you have any questions, ask! we have all been where you are and can help I promise.
