Hi Kathywindett , you have come to the right place, I expect Hidden will come along soon and introduce you to the September Newbie club where you will be given heaps of information to look through. In the meantime have a good read through the posts and take a look at the Challenges on offer that might motivate you. We are very friendly and supportive. Make sure you read everything that Cracker suggests and take time to take it all in. Start slowly changing just a few things at a time. If you have a lot of weight to loose, I would suggest setting small goals along the way to make it less daunting.
Good luck
Hi and welcome Kathywindett
Motivation is something that comes over time... when we start to see that it works.
AND we just have to keep on going.... through thick and thin!
I started my weight loss journey at the end of February 2012, weighing in at 14 stone - 5 and a half years ago. I was 49 years old and had been trying to lose weight all of my life since the age of 9.
I managed to lose 4.5 stone in 2 and a half years through calorie counting and logging/weighing all of my food going from a size 24 to a size 16 and from 14 stone down to 9 and a half.
Then re-gained some.... lost some again and have now managed to more or less maintain for the past 6 months.
BUT... ideally I would love to drop another stone and maintain there.
I have a disability which makes exercise difficult, but the one thing that I realise very early on in my journey was that I was just eating FAR TOO MUCH! I was a VERY short (4ft 9"), middle aged, sedentary female and I was eating the same as 5ft 9" active man (my now husband!).
No wonder I was piling on the weight!
Here are a few of my past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring. I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - and you'll see that there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.
Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it.

Hi Kathywindett welcome to the forum you will definitely get support from here
I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link

I've also given you a week 1 badge.
Wishing you all the best
Hi Kathy
The fact you have joined this forum shows you are motivated.
The first thing to do is to decide how you are going to do it. Are you going to follow the NHS 12 week plan on this site and increase your activity?
Once you have decided to do so look through your larder and throw out all those foods which are not good for your body and will tempt you to overeat .
Try to keep your blood sugar level even by avoiding sugary food and refined carbs i.e. White rice, pasta, bread ,
Eat plenty of vegetables and protein and beans and nuts e.g. Unsalted almonds in small quantities
Keep an honest record of everything you eat and count calories. My fitness pal is free to download to your phone and can help you keep track.
I bought a fit bit which counts my calories and keeps track of my steps. Try to walk 10000 a day.
Try to get a good nights sleep as I think it helps you lose weight.
Avoid alcohol if possible as it has a lot of calories and disinhibits you so you are more likely to eat more than you plan. Other than the occasional glass of red wine it is not good for you anyway.
If you sit down a lot at work make sure you stand up every 30 mins and walk around if possible
Take the stairs rather than a lift
Eating more healthily starts in your shopping basket
Best wishes and I look forward to hearing of your first weight loss
Thank you some really good tips for me to take on board, I think my first start is to cut the fizzy drinks and up my water intake.think that's my goal for this week.
Hello and welcome to the forum!! pcwr has done well with the healthier foods to eat. And pick the best weigh in day of the week. Don't overwhelm yourself make small changes on your journey and that way it will stick and keep posting there a lot of inspiration here and tips Good luck on your journey.
