Hi and welcome, Happyflower :)

This community is all about mutual support, so you're going to fit in beautifully :)

I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Hello Happyflower and welcome!

The think with alcohol is....

...it's addictive and becomes a bit of a habit

...alcohol consumption induces serious attacks of the munchies

...alcohol, however enjoyable... is "empty" calories

I used to love my glass of wine. Weirdly (perhaps hormonal - I'm coming up for 55 years old) I have gone right off the taste of red and white wine :( and only like prosecco! It just tastes bitter and awful. Something weird going on with my tastebuds!

However, I am only little (4ft 9") and sedentary because of disability. My calorie allowance to maintain is only 1,300 a day - 1,100 to continue losing. It's hard enough to stick to that without including any alcohol!

You can do this! There's no reason why you can't enjoy the odd glass of wine and include it within your daily calorie allowance - HOWEVER, in terms of calories, shorts are better - so perhaps time to swap to G&T or whatever other tipple you enjoy?

I'm 55 and 5foot 3 I'm in my 3rd night with out a wine I'm not just on about a glass ... I'm actually enjoying refreshing water and thinking about calories more ... thanks for replying and the encouragement you have given .. much appreciated x

Glad my comments helped.

Us shorties (I'm 4ft 9"!) have even less room for alcohol than most! I think you just need to break the habit - and, as you appear to have done, find a nice alternative. Try adding cucumber slices, mint or lemon to the water for an extra special touch!

Welcome Happyflower - this is a great support network and the more you contribute; the more you get back. Luckily I am not an alcohol fan, but enjoy the odd prosecco or cocktail. I have always preferred to eat my calories. Good luck this week.

I have been impressed by the support on this website and wish you success. Perhaps we can support each other as I'm hoping to stop putting weight on and lose about a stone and a half.

You have a fab attitude.
