Looking forward to chatting and sharing experiences, I feel I have been there, done that yet here I am approaching retirement and still over weight. It would appear knowing what to do does not necessarily get the result you hope for. I'm hoping sharing experiences may be the key. Fingers crossed

A new beginning
Hi Leaving18
Welcome to the weigh loss forum.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.
Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.
Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.
Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.
We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.
To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.
Have a good first week.

Hi, welcome! I am sure you can lose some weight and feel better. Are you going to try the 12 week plan?
Thank you, I see the 6 stone symbols, is that how much you have list or how much you would like to loose. My target would be about 6 stone but I know I would be happy with anything as long as it is in the right direction. I'm going to read up on the plan and get started at the weekend. Thanks again Kathy
I lost 5 stones through gastric bypass x
Still to your credit I paid £8k for a band and only lost a stone. I think even with help it's hard and that at the end of the day you have to get your head in the right place. I'm feeling really positive about chatting to people I really hope I get the light bulb moment. If not I am sure I will learn lots along the way
When I joined here I felt the same. I actually thought that I'd given up for good trying to lose weight but somehow the NHS 12 week plan and this forum gave me hope 'one last time'. That was in Jan and now I haven't felt so good about myself for decades.
Good luck to you and we're all here to help you on.
There are quite a few of us retired ladies on here, a mixture , some of us who put on the weight in middle age/menopause and some who yo-yo'd throughout their lives. We've all had to re-learn eating habits, not easy but do-able. Some of us had health scares to motivate us, others were just plain miserable and had enough of being overweight. But we ALL get our weak moments, we're not saints every day and for most of us it has been two steps forward one back.
But YOU CAN get there in the end if your head and heart really want to. So enjoy the forum, give the 12 week plan a go, and use the members on here to rejoice or commiserate with whenever you need it.
I went for the bypass rather than band as I wanted it to be as permanent as possible and like you it seems people have had issues with the band. Well done for joining the group, its the first step, I feel so much more positive now myself, reading everyones comments, food they eat etc. Everyone is so supportive too!
