I have struggled with my weight for 16 years and unfortunately now am at my largest ever. I have been recommended to use this service and was looking for some tips/advice if possible! I am a serial yo-yo dieter and it's having a major impact on my health. I get married next year and want to live a healthy and happy life. Thanks so much

A new beginning (I hope!)
Hi Trefoil 12 😆
Welcome to this fab site! You will get all the help, encouragement and advice you could ever need.
There are many 'failed' dieters on here, who are now enjoying tremendous success since becoming part of this amazing group.
Best of luck to you on your weight loss journey. 😊
Hi and welcome, Trefoil
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Congrats on the wedding. You can totally do this. Just stick around and join in the challenges for inspiration.
Thank you all for your replies! Really looking forward to getting sorted, just having a look through the pinned posts and challenges etc.
Do make sure you are eating enough calories. Check out how many you should have to be able to lose weight on the NHS bmi calculator as this gives personal amounts and others tend to just give average amounts. I used to only eat around 1000 Cals a day and this was why I was putting on weight, because my body thought I was starving it and turned everything I ate into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops me from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. Please don't make this same mistake as I did this for years. I only found out about this on here and had never heard of it anywhere else and am so pleased I was finally told of this. Good luck with your journey.
Thank you HubbysMissMouse! I have just had a look at the BMI checker and I will go for the bottom end and see if I am hungry, there is quite a difference between the lower and top end so hopefully I can find a medium! I'm glad this site is good and helped you to work out that you were eating too little, it all looks amazing so far! Thanks again.
Ok, I did choose the lower end but do regret this as any time it stalls you cannot lower your amounts so you still lose weight just as quick you just have to wait for it to change but if you go for a mid or higher range you can slightly drop your calorie amount further and carry on as normal. It is your choice though.
Hello again HubbysMissMouse, thank you so much for the reply! I have been looking into it and I totally agree with you. I will not have any room for manoeuvre if I stick to the bottom amount, I suppose that it's all about finding my happy medium and a bit of trial and error! I hope that you're having a good day!
