A new beginning?

helloeveryone123 profile image

Hi everyone,

I'm brand new here and hoping to start a weight loss journey that doesn't fail this time. I used to lose weight easily and now I seem to really struggle. Here goes...!

Good luck with this. 😄

Did you figure out why the previous attempts didn't succeed? Are you trying a different approach this time. 😊

Hi,

I think I always lost well and was a bit too blase when it came to watching what I ate as I never particularly struggled losing it again. The last time I decided I needed to lose a stone I was 9st 10 and went to 8st 7lb through a diet that restricted food groups, so I only ate lean protein and most types of vegetables (with a sneaky vodka and diet coke on a weekend!). That was 8 years ago and over the past two years my weight has increased by 2st. I feel I may have affected my metabolism through restricting my food groups in that diet, or maybe it's age (I'm now 47).

I convinced myself I must have a thyroid imbalance (as I have developed symptoms, such as a red stripe on my neck, rougher skin and anxiety in speaking publicly) but had tests done and I have normal levels.

My different approach is going to be not cutting out any food groups, sticking to the calorie level recommended and exercising daily- but not so much that I sicken myself!

Any tips?

Hi, I just recently joined for hard to lose weight as well. This has been my first attempt and so far I’ve cut my calories to a recommended 1200 calories a day for the past seven months and have gained. I’m not sure if it’s lack of activity or something slowing my metabolism. How did you lose previously?

I'll admit I found calorie counting / calorie reduction, utterly ineffective when I tried it previously. Changing to a Low Carb High Fat approach broke the stalemate for me.

Hello and welcome, Match62017 😊

You're right, your metabolism has slowed as you've been eating too little. Unfortunately, the "eat less, move more" message is still around. If only it were that simple.

What that message ignores is the role of hormones in storing fat, and triggering feelings of hunger and fullness. This post explains this healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

I always found it was more what I ate not how much I ate that worked for me. I'm no good at sticking to a calorie count but I'm going to eat healthily and not sneak in unhealthy snacks so should stick to the calories by default hopefully. I may go back to get my thyroid levels checked again if it doesn't work this time. I'm crossing my fingers!
