I found that I had no less than twelve tins of chick peas so, sorting them into date order ie better eat this one pdq, I came up with the following which tastes quite good though I'm not a vegetarian. One could always serve it with cold chicken or something. A tin of chick peas which I rinsed as the water had become quite gloopy. Put into a casserole dish with a tin of sweet chestnuts and a few thickly sliced shallots. Top with some lightly cooked cauliflower florets and then a cheese sauce and sprinkle a few breadcrumbs on top and finish off in the oven. I worked out the calorie content of the whole dish which, divided by four gives me about 400 calories per portion. I used an ounce of butter for the white sauce @ 3.5 ounces of low fat cheddar etc.
I've recently realised that I didn't reply to some people who responded to my posts and I apologise, it wasn't intentional, my internet connection is so poor here that things get lost or overlooked.
Monday tomorrow, I wish us all a week of superb control

Thanks. First helping today. I make it 403 calories per portion ie a quarter of the whole dish. I'll see if it fills me up enough. I'm sure it is psychological but if I don't have some sort of meat or fish I feel I've missed out.
Sounds yummy I love chickpeas! A couple of my favourite recipies are chicken, chorizo and chickpea stew and chickpea, tomato and spinach balti yum yum ☺
They sound good but I'm always disappointed if I cook with chorizo because it looses flavour, maybe I'm adding it too early. Other sausages might suit me better.
I've tried making it a few times, I don't cook with added oil so it's just chickpeas, garlic and lemon juice in the blender - it comes out ok but I've not worked out the correct quantities
Have you tried black chickpeas? You can get them tinned in Indian supermarkets. They have a stronger flavour than the white ones. And then there's chickpea flour
No never heard of black chick peas, thank you for that. I do know about chick pea flour though I've never used it. I did make Owain's recipe for chick pea rissoles which I liked in spite of putting in too much lemon. Now I'm wondering whether I'll experiment with a bit of sausage meat in the mix as well. I think they need to be good quality sausages from a farm shop, There is one of those not too far away.
I can of chickpeas[drained and rinsed in cold water] , crushed clove garlic ,herbs and spices and lemon juice ,I find anything goes, depending on what I have in my cupboard. Grated carrot and spring onions.
Blend chickpeas garlic, herbs ,spices and lemon juice in a food processor.I like mine chunky ,so do not blend it smooth.
Empty into a bowl ,and add carrot [pat dry ,to get rid of excess water] and spring onion ,mix in thoroughly and make into burgers.
I leave them in the fridge overnight ,to make them set.
Cook with a little rapeseed oil ,gently to prevent breaking.
However, overnight in the fridge prevents this.
You can also use a handful of breadcrumbs if you wish, gives a good consistency. Add along with carrots and spring onion.
