Possibility of underactive thyroid...

I haven't mentioned this so far, but the last blood tests I had indicated underactive thyroid. Tomorrow I am going to get the more thorough tests which will show whether I really do or not. I am determined that whatever the result I will continue this path to eat well, and I hope that I can still lose weight. The indication so far is that I can!

Hope it all goes well with the tests. It's always better to know I think. Xx

There are lots of helpful sites to arm you with information about the best diet for an underactive thyroid. One site suggested a gluten free diet was helpful to some people; you might have to experiment as to which foods make you feel better or not.

You should continue to lose weight if you keep track of what you are eating, and hopefully not feeling too tired and lacking in energy. Exercise can be as little as a gentle walk daily; it doesn't have to be too fast or lively, so long as you keep moving at a pace that is comfortable to you. Good luck with your test results!

Hi Ruby8,

Hope the further tests go well, and wishing you success with your goals. Hope the weekend is going well so far.

Hope your tests go well, if it's any consolation my partner has under active thyroid and takes medication for it and can actually lose weight easier than me, so all is not lost!

Thanks Caz, that's very encouraging to hear!

An underactive thyroid does not stop you loosing weight, I'v lost two stone in 5 months. I take my medication, do the exercise and watch what I eat. I've now got to think about counting those calories because I've been static for a while and salads will be off as the days draw in but I'll leave it until I've been on holiday.

Thanks roberval. That's what I thought, although you see a lot of people saying it prevents them from losing....
