Hi, can anyone tell me if they have lost weight with an under active thyroid, I have been taking levothyroxine for a few years but just can't shift the weight ๐
Underactive thyroid: Hi, can anyone tell... - Weight Loss Support
Underactive thyroid
Hi, my partner has under active thyroid and is on levothyroxine and as been eating the same as me since I started the NHS plan but larger portions, and also having 'treats' that I don't have. Although already in the healthy BMI range wanted to lose half a stone and has lost 5lbs up to now without trying too hard! So, it would seem it is possible. Have you been doing the NHS plan and calorie counting? If so and its not working for you, maybe you could have a chat with your doctor about seeing a dietician regarding your condition in relation to diet. Good luck!
I have rejoined weight watchers (again for the 400th time lol) I just can't seem to shift the weight, I have also started to try and do 10000 steps per day, I hope the weight does start to go but there seems to be loads of stuff on the internet about metabolic set points which means you are at the weight your meant to be so there goes the theory of move more eat less ....
I would be wary of eating too little, the truck seems to be to eat just enough short of what you need so you lose a little but regularly ๐ I've used WW before and always lost weight well, good luck ๐
Yes, I have ๐ It's not easy, and the weight loss has been slow, about 1lb a week initially, now about 1/2 lb a week, but certainly possible ๐ And I have plenty to eat, just watch portion size and keep treats as just that, occasional trests ๐ Good luck
Hi, I've been on levothyroxine for some years now and I've lost weight over that time. I've also put it on but since March and some lifestyle changes I've lost nearly 2 stone.
Hi roberval , I am also on levothyroxine I would be really interested to hear how you achieved your 2 stone loss!! Well done!
Well it is mainly down to exercise, smaller portions, water and being selfish. I also cut sugars out of my diet as far as possible - not fruit but processed sugar. That was the best thing I could have done, not that I had a lot to start with!
Thanks roberval , that's useful to know. I have lost 2 and a quarter pounds in my first week - chuffed! I have been doing roughly the same thing - perhaps need to up my water intake and exercise though.
I have a sweet tooth, but have managed to cut out all sweets/chocolate this week - eating more fruit. I think I will have trouble sustaining that, so plan to allow a little square of dark chocolate when I feel the need!
Thanks again
B
We all need our treats. I've had a couple of bad weekends. I blame St. John sitting, doing nothing, with people eating all around is tiring and hard. Just want to grab something easy when I get home.
We do indeed! The message from a lot of the posts seem to reiterate the importance of planning meals - I think they have a good point. We have been watching Jamie's 15 minute meals - he makes lovely food in that time. Although, it would take people in the real world a little longer :).
Good luck for this week!
By the time I head for home after clearing up, cleaning vehicles etc. etc. it's getting late sometimes so cooking, even 15 minute meals is an effort and I never fancy salad as a main meal after about 8 pm!
Goodness, I bet you are well and truly exhausted by then!!
Just a though - Is there any chance of having your main meal during the day?? Perhaps something you have prepared the night before - don't know if you have access to a microwave at work? Another option may be a flask of thick soup with sour dough or rye bread?
I don't know if any of this is of any help - just some thoughts - sometimes we need to change things around to help ourselves to achieve our goals. That doesn't mean I do this myself at all times - but I do give myself a good talking to on occasion!!
Good luck; and try not to lose heart
Wow, that's just fantastic, what have you been doing ?
Hi Kelly17 I am on levothyroxine too! I attended Slimming world for about 18 months and lost 18lbs - it was a very slow process. I have taken my eye off the ball,so to speak, and have put it all on again! I found that I lost half a pound to 1 pound per week - and I was following it to the letter.
I only joined on Monday - but feel very motivated, this is a great supportive form. I have been doing steps every day, cut down on carbs, increased fruit and veg - and most importantly, cut down on sweet treats!!
I have found that reading other posts is very helpful - they offer tips and hints. It also reminds me that it is easy to lose focus - and I need to ensure I remain focused!!
It may be worth joining the Monday weigh in? Helps to keep track.
Wishing you the very best of luck in your first week!
I do find Slimming world monotonous at times. I cannot lose anything on that diet hence I have started this one. I have been on levothyroxine 10 years now
