Welcome to the forum, and I hope you'll find it a helpful and supportive place to be. There are definitely lots of encouraging people on here.
Have you seen the NHS 12 week plan? It's really good, and has lots of helpful advice and information, and provides a good 12 week structured approach - you can link to it here, if you want to take a look:

I'd recommend using an app to track your calories and exercise - something like 'Myfitnesspal' or something similar, as it makes it much easier to keep track of everything.

Like Dave says, you are very welcome to join in the Monday weigh-in thread that I do each week, if you'd like to - I know that a group virtual weigh-in may not be every person's cup of tea, but there are lots of really lovely people from the forum who join in.

Hi Anne we can all help you with a kick up the bum but first you have to help yourself.
That being said if you can kick yourself up your own bum you probably don't need to lose weight
@Lowcal is so right - Myfitnesspal is AWESOME and so easy to use to count calories, scan barcodes so you don't have to enter food and it can even import recipes from the web. Its like magic!
Calorie counting may not be your bag but personally I think its really important to at least start there because over time we have lost touch with howe calorie dense food can be, lost touch with making choices or eating mindfully...for example I used to have a skinny latter every morning thinking :Hmm - skinny - so thats all fine".
Problem is even a regular size skinny latte has 100 or so calories and lots of carbs - so I get a long black with a splash of milk and spend those calories elsewhere in the day. Still get my caffeine and have more food to play with.
Its about thinking about all your food choices and trying to make wise ones where you can.
The wonderful @Lowcal runs a weigh in every Monday so have a think about joining in on that and welcome

To join the Monday weigh-in that I do, just look out for my thread - it's always go the same name, which is "Please Join Me for a Monday Weigh-in" (current date in brackets) - therefore the next one is this Monday, 24th August. I always try to post the thread before 7am on a Monday, so you should be able to find it easily.
I know you're just starting, so maybe just pop into the thread this Monday and just introduce yourself, so we can officially welcome you in there, and then you're part of the group! Everyone is welcome, and it's great that you'd like to join in.

Hi Anne,
I just joined this site last night hoping it will give me the extra support as it is so hard to do this alone.
I have just made a brief plan of food I am going to eat for the week and picking up my shopping today to make sure I get started.
I am not sticking to a diet as such but hope to change my eating habits and eat healthily, pinched some recipes from the slimmed world website some new and old to try.
Have you made any plans for the week?
