My 27year Battle

My story started when I was 14. I had heavy periods I went the Doctor, the Doctor said it was my age. The periods were so heavy at aged 17 I started the combined pill.

I was still suffering although I had better control - At the age of 26 I managed to see a gynaecologist yearly, I was told take the pill back to back with no break.

This of course masked the problem - as I know now!. By accident at aged 35 I came off the pill (My blood pressure was increasing). Within a few months my clothes size increased - my hair was dryer and coarser even with new products.

I was still unsure as to why I went back to the Gynae still no answers - Then one day by mistake my appoint had been missed scheduled. I was on my period day three I asked the nurse specialist for a blood tests LH and FSH levels. The diagnosis was made, in 2011 although never really acknowledged.

Over the years I was ok, the weight was not too bad, and then I was hospitalised for depression, my pcos symptoms affects me every day.

My Hair has gone down to 75% loss. It is so short now I only have hair at the top. I am trying saw palmetto which interferes with my cycles. I sometimes get inter menstrual bleeding with this. My bleeding although regular is heavy and has blood clots. My Gp prescribed transanemic acid. Again this wrong as it can cause DVT.

The last time I changed GPs in 2017 having gained more knowledge I asked for a Transvaginal scan.

I was lucky the senior and Seno - grapher and junior were excellent - I eventually got the report although it was delayed. The report was as I suspected larger ovaries with cysts. I had one large cyst - and a dominant follicle.

The new Gp did refer me to the assisted conception unit - nut hey asked so many questions of the form. I answered then I left my partner off, as he was going to work overseas.

I am now at stage where I do not want IVF unless last resort as it comes with complications . I am aiming for a natural conception - although knowing my luck I will end up with the worst midwife.

It is 2018 during a complaint I realised it was missing from my medical files - the practice manager has finally agreed to put the diagnosis on my file.

My experiences taught me that the NHS is very poor at gynae care - if you PCOS you have to be resilient as we stuck with it. People won't understand our weight or hair loss issues.

Thanks for sharing my story
