Wanting help for hormones.

Evening,

I was dignosed 3 weeks ago with pcos. I am lucky enough to already have 2 children and had already decided after our 2nd with my husband we didn't want anymore.

Iv spoke with my GP and told him I'm really struggling with my hormones. I feel like they can be everywhere. I struggle to get to sleep some nights and have suddenly become very anxious and panicking over silly things. My lebido seems to have disappeared too.

He has advised me that because I suffer with visual migraines unfortunately they can not put me back onto the combined pill of which I was on Yasmin previously. I never had any problems with hormones when I was on this. I asked if there was any other options and he advised I go on anti depressants and wait till I get the menopause and my hormones should settle down and that this was the only option for me.

Im am very nervous about taking them as I'm not convinced they are going to balance out my hormones.

Iv tried to do my research and have started taking inositol, maca, flax seeds, St. John's worst ,vitamin b complex and agnus castes. Iv started running again to bust some stress away and cut out coffee and alcohol. Is there anything else anyone can recommend.

I'm lucky enough to not have any of the other typical symptoms of pcos only the hormones and the cysts that show on the scan.

Also Iv noticed that there are other risks of heart disease and diabetes with it but my GP has never mentioned checking me any further other than a review after I start taking the medication his prescribed.

Any help I'd be greatful for.

Thanks Sophie

Not sure anti depressants are the right route in this case but saying that I am on them and they help my anxiety hugely - I am also on the combined pill as well which obviously helps but not an option, sadly, for you.

There is an increased risk of heart disease and diabetes but this tends to be triggered more with the weight rather than just pcos on its own so I think if you keep your weight at a even level and as close to normal as poss then the risks are reduced hugely.

Go with a low GI type diet, it may be worth asking to be referred to an endocrinologist to discuss the hormones further as I am not sure the GP has been of much help. Also there is not many studies on menopause and pcos, also no suggestion of whether it arrives earlier than the norm or later. I am 47 so waiting to see what happens (but still on yasmin).

Also look at the NICE guidelines on PCOS as it advises what to expect too as you should really be referred to an endo to investigate it further rather than the GP just sort of fobbing you off.

Good luck

Thank you so much for the reply. I totally understand that the anti depressants will help with the anxiety but feel Iv just been robbed off.

I will look into the NICE guidelines and see if I can be investigated further.

Once again thank you for taking the time to reply.

Hi Sophie,

It sounds like you have already put a lot of good habits in place, I wouldn't rush onto anti-depressants if you are unsure. I know you are using the herbs, agnus castes etc but I found homeopathy unbelievable at balancing my hormones to the point that I went and studied it, if you would like some more information just let me know but maybe consider a more gentle approach and you definitely deserve to find some relief now, not just when the menopause starts.

hope this helps
