I’m Izzy, I’ve has pcos since I was 14 and I’m now 23.
I have had pcos since I was 14 and in the past 9 years I really have not seem to have made any sort of progress. I’ve never had regular periods and in the past couple of years they have become non existent, but if I have had one in a blue moon they’ve been crippling and caused me to faint and vomit (which isn’t like me, I usually can be pretty good with pain!)
In the past year or so I’ve began to get constant pelvic pain despite not having periods, and my excess hair (face and tummy) growth has been getting worse. I am very lucky as my weight has managed to stay down but I do watch my diet and exercise regularly. Despite trips to the doctors, and trying 9 different contraceptive pills, the symptoms, particularly the stomach pain have continued getting worse. Have any of you experienced constant pelvic pain as a result of your pcos? If so, have you tried any sort of treatments that have helped? As my doctor seems to think unless I am ready to start a family, I am a lost cause.
I also have been told the mirena coil is my last resort for symptom relief, have any of you used this before?
Sorry for the long post, but as it’s coming up to 10 years of this it’s starting to feel like a bit of a long haul which I don’t think will rectify itself in time like I was told it would when I was 14. Keeping it all to myself is wearing me a little thin so would be nice to speak to some other women going through the same thing, whatever age 😊
Thank you SO much for taking the time to read this! Any answers are appreciated ❤️

Hi hun yasmin and metformin work really well for me I suffered for 10 years been doing the 2 medications since January and feeling the best Iever had pain wise and symptom wise xx
Hi, thanks for your message, I’ll definitely look into metformin and ask the doctor about it, I don’t think I can take yasmin as I get migraines, typical! Thanks so much x
Hi Izzy, Sounds like you've had a rough 9 years with pcos. I have also been diagnosed for the last 10yrs, although I suspect I've always had it since puberty.
I know exactly what you mean with the frustrations of being repeatedly told that if you're not looking to start a family then it simply shouldn't be a problem - but that doesn't take away all the horrible symptoms we have to live with.
I went back to my doctors asking for help and was referred to gynea, which gave me hope, but each time the only solution for symptom control was the mirena coil.
I gave in a couple of years ago and had it fitted, but OH MY GOD, it was awful! Not just the pain and humiliation of having it put in (I nearly fainted), but I saw no improvements in my symptoms and actually felt a whole lot worse. I gave it 6 months, as advised, then had it removed. I've never been right since.
I wish I could try Metformin, but with all the other medications I take the doctor won't prescribe it.
I hope you find some help and something that works for you, but I would strongly advise against the mirena coil if at all possible.
Thanks so much for your message! Really appreciate your honestly regards the Mirena, I’ve felt so sceptical about it! I will definitely ask about metaformin, maybe see if it’s a possibility before I try the mirena. Thank you again and I wish you all the best in your progress and I hope you find some suitable help soon xx
Good luck, let me know how you get on with that please! From what I've read on the NICE website, Metformin is a diabetes drug and is not licensed for treating pcos, but is prescribed at the gp's discretion.
