This is a very interesting read for those of us that struggle with sleep.
I already take L-theanine and magnesium alongside 20mg of Amitriptyline and 0.75 Clonazepam (which I'm currently trying to reduce). I've struggled with sleep since being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 25 years ago and managed on the Amitriptyline for all this time until diagnosed with Hashimotos. Since that time my sleep has been severely disrupted with not being able to sleep or stay asleep and cannot wake up in the mornings.
Gaba was mentioned by another forum member as an alternative to Clonazepam and Izabella Wentz has also recommended it so I am very tempted to see if Gaba would help with my daytime anxiety and eventually as a substitute for Clonazepam which I desperately want to get off of.
One recommendation that works for me if I cannot get to sleep is to get up and eat lots of Greek Yogurt which contains tryptophan which is supposed to promote relaxation and sleep. It definitely works for me.
Now I just need something to wake me up in the mornings! It hasn't helped that the clocks have gone forward!

Your sleep should improve as you dose Levo /T3 increases
Previous posts show you are currently very under medicated and terribly low ferritin and folate
Have you tried splitting your T3 as 5mcg waking and 5mcg at bedtime
Retest 8-10 weeks after your latest increase in Levo
ALWAYS test early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
In days before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70

Thank you. No, I haven't tried splitting the T3 between morning and night because I wasn't sure if it was ok to take at night with the Amitriptyline and Clonazepam.
I have a blood test tomorrow morning at 9.00am so have taken my T3 at 9.00pm tonight (Amitriptyline and Clonazepam I'll take at 9.30pm) and will miss the Levo in the morning until after the blood test as recommended. This blood test was already scheduled therefore I have only been on the increased dose of Levo 75mcg plus 10T3 for 4 weeks.
I'll post again when I receive the results. Hoping to have Vitamin D tested too which was missed from my last blood test. I'll have to ask the nurse tomorrow.
do you have a sleep watch? You should get one if U dont have it. Check your hrv and your spo2. Have you tried coQ10? L carnitine? More omega 3, drink daily kefir (more calcium is good just remember to take d3/k2 so the calcium gets to the right places in the body, 10.000 steps daily, drink a daily vegetable juice, it really helps me (daily cellery juice, cucumber, carrots, apple) I also take 2 protein shakes daily, one cup coffee daily with glycine powder in it + lions mane. More supplements helps my sleep! Also daily zinc supplements! And it also helps to do stuff you like (then we are more in ‘the now’
I’ve found melatonin helpful. I order mine from Biovea. You can’t buy melatonin in the UK but Biovea are American with a base in Europe. They’re very efficient & so far I’ve had no problems with taxes or customs.
Some people find a 3mg dose works but best for me is the slow release 10 mg.
Nytol, from the chemist, is useful for establishing a better sleep routine. It’s an old fashioned antihistamine.
Take your supplements and benzos hours before you go to bed. Try adding magnesium glycinate. Stay away from caffeine. If you're still not sleepy, try reading. Go outside with bare feet on grass to sync your body clock (earthing/grounding). Also, leave a curtain open so that natural light helps to wake you. Herbal teas with lavender, and the smell of lavender helps with sleep. Counting backwards from the thousands. A slow taper from Benzos is the only way off of the dreaded pills. There are support groups on FB also YouTube videos of testimonials of withdrawal issues. You're not alone.🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for the helpful advice. I do already take my supplements and benzo hours before going to bed. I never feel sleepy and relaxed but do somehow get to sleep but wake often during the night and then cannot get up in the morning. Yes, I'm doing a slow taper from the benzo but its still been horrendous with really bad anxiety and panic attacks, its seems this happens for 2 weeks and by the third week I taper again. Really wish I had never started them as it seems the anxiety has come back with a vengeance and much worse than before I started taking them. Really hope that once I get my thyroid levels optimal that things will calm down.
Because of Isabella Wentz I began taking digestive enzymes and HCL with Gentian Bitters. Our digestion slows as we age. She, in her Root Cause book, remarked about her difficulty with waking until she took HCL before bed and awakened early for once!Worth looking into?
Thank you, that sounds very hopeful. I’ll look into taking that. Since reducing my Benzos I’m finding it really difficult to sleep. I think withdrawals include insomnia. Hopefully once I am off them my body will settle down. HCL is definitely worth a try.,
