I’ve just had blood results (see photos) for thyroid function after being on 25 mg of thyroxine for 3 months. My TSH has dropped from around 6 to 4.remains around 15. T3 not tested by GP.
I also requested iron panel blood test as ferritin was 34. Folate 10. B12 592 and Vit d 80.
GP wants to discuss above results and request for iron panel with me.
Hopefully dose will be increased to 50mg of thyroxine .
I attach history of results and in 2010 my TSH was 1.8 so guess this is my base /normal functioning level.

Thanks for posting, you are definitely due an increase, if you can encourage your GP to test a bit sooner than 12 weeks as you titrate up your doses it will be better for you, I was left in 25mcg for way too long and felt worse than before. I kept pestering at 8 week intervals with private blood test readings and worked up through 50,75,100mcg just with phone appointments.
If you could add the ranges to all your results, it will be easier for others to offer suggestions. Ranges differ by lab so can mean results numbers are more different than they look.
Your ferritin looks low by any range, definitely need a full iron panel. If not anaemic it might be Iron Deficiency Without Anaemia (IDWA). Treated as for anaemia, my preference is Three Arrows Simply Heme as it’s not affected by meals/drinks and no side effects.
I’m definitely not anaemic but could have iron deficiency as you say. I don’t want to supplement without having iron levels tested but GP didn’t approve my e- consult request and she wants to discuss it with me.
Where do you buy the three arrows iron supplements from ?
No she wants me to call her to discuss my request for full iron panel. I’m guessing she will say as I’m not anaemic and ferritin is in range there is no need for a full iron panel!
I have also read that ferritin is not a good measure of iron stores. This article is interesting:-
Roche Serum B12 592 ng/l this was 2 months after a B12 injection previously was 327 in May 2023
Folate 10 .2 ng/l (previous test in May 2023 was 6.2)
How long since you had B12 injection
Are you getting regular B12 injections
B vitamins best taken after breakfast
Igennus B complex popular option. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose and may need separate methyl folate couple times a week
Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg)
Post discussing how biotin can affect test results
Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption
This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.
Post discussing just how long it can take to raise low ferritin
Hi I had a Vit B12 injection 2 weeks ago. Before that I had one in mid June. I’ve not been having them regularly. However, think I will have one every few months .
I will order the Vit B tablets now. I won’t supplement with iron just yet . If GP refuses iron panel I will do medichecks one. I do eat iron rich foods but mainly no heme and could probably have more vit c.
I might try the chicken liver pate !
I also see there is iron mouth spray supplements which might get absorbed better ?
