Medichecks results

Hello, i have just received my medichecks results and I'm really not sure if I should bother to send them to my GP or not. My TSH is above range but the range is different to the range on my blood tests carried out by my GP and therefore I would just about be in range. They already know that my antibodies are raised and are not concerned.

I have attached my results.

All vitamins and iron panel are normal but ferritin is low/normal

When ranges are different, you don't use the result from one test and use the range from a different test.

Your TSH is over range with this test so it doesn't matter what your GP test was. Show your GP this set of results and emphasise that you have an over range TSH with elevated thyroid antibodies so will he give you a trial of Levo.

It would be worth posting your vitamin results (with reference ranges) because normal just means somewhere within range, it doesn't necessarily mean optimal, you may still need to supplement.

Your ferritin is terrible

You need full iron panel test for anaemia

Are you currently taking any iron supplements

Are you vegetarian or vegan

Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

Thyroid disease is as much about optimising vitamins as thyroid hormones

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first

That's great thank you. No I'm not supplementing with iron because I have beta thalassemia minor. That's really helpful, thank you!

Your vitamin D is low and would be better at over 100 even up to 150. A you also need to take magnesium and vitamin vitamin K2 mk 7 to put the vitamin D to the right place and keep it there. Jo xx

Your folate level is surprisingly good. Very few people report a level that high.

Are you taking folic acid? It might appear in a B Complex or as a separate supplement.

I see you are from Germany. Is folic acid added to food in Germany and if it is, do you eat a lot of such food?

I'm not from Germany, I have no idea why my profile says I am! I take a high dose of methyl folate daily as I have thalassemia minor and this is recommended

Oh good - methyl folate is a good choice for raising folate. :)
