blood test results

hi,

Please can I have some advice on my blood tests done this week. I’m 69 next month and have Hashimotos and Sjögren’s. I take nothing but eye drops for Sjögren’s and 50 mcg T4 and 2 x 5 mcg T3 daily for thyroid. I think I’m sensitive to T3 as when I took 10 mcg once a day I developed sinus arrhythmia but I seem to be ok on it split into two doses as my heart feels ok now.

Serum TSH 0.16 mlU/L (0.27-4.2)

Serum free T4 9.2 pmol/L (12.0-22.0)

Serum free T3 4.2 pmol/L (3.1-6.8)

Serum 25-hydroxy vit D3 level 63.8 nmol/L (50 sufficient for most people

Serum B12 327 pg/mL (197.0-771.0)

Serum Folate 8.7 ug/L (<3 suggestive of deficiency)

My GP has said my thyroid levels are fine so keep on same meds.

I stopped sublingual B12 in May together with magnesium and D3+K2 to see what these bloods were like after a break. I looked back on my bloods from January 2024 as I remembered my zinc was low. For some reason nobody contacted me regarding this but I started taking zinc. I can’t remember why but I stopped taking it but have re-started this week. My results in January were:

Serum zinc level 10.8 umol/L (11.0-24.0)

This wasn’t tested on this last lot of bloods.

I’ve been feeling very down and tearful and I think I’ve had a Sjögren’s flare as for a couple of weeks I felt ‘fluey’ on and off and had stringy saliva on waking and mucous in eyes so it’s hard to tell what’s what!

I’d be really grateful for your help as usual. My Endo hasn’t seen these bloods but when I saw him in May he said if I had problems with T3 to drop one of the 5 mcg doses. I really don’t feel overmedicated!

hi there,

Thanks for posting, your Free T4 is under range and will make you feel dreadful. Poor thing.

You probably need closer to 100mcg T4 dose and should ask for a 25 mcg increase and trial for 8 weeks and test again. 50mcg is a starter dose, they do like to leave us like this, happened to me before I found this forum.

GP should (but they don’t) ignore TSH, you take T3 so that is going to be supressed. Ask Endo to write to GP explaining TSH is likely to be supressed and you are under replaced not over.

D we generally feel better if it’s closer to 100

B12 again looking for over 500

Yep keep taking the zinc. Which form do you have? I have biglycinate others tried picolinate, I’m not sure what works best. Mine is also under or on the range border when I test. 🌱

Hi, I was on 100 mcg T4 but my Endo reduced it to 50 when he prescribed T3. I asked GP for a 75 mcg increase when I was last on 10 mcg T3 and he said I’d probably made matters worse.

I don’t know what to believe as I’ve read T3 not only reduces TSH but T4 also?

Thank you for your reply - I take zinc picolinate and feel slightly better this week since taking it. We must be prone to low zinc?
