Years ago I had a full thyroid panel which included tsh , free t4 , free t3 and Thyroid Peroxidase Ab IU/mL . My result was : 0.84 IU/mL The Range: 0 - 5 IU/mL
But my GP didn’t check thyroglobulin antibody levels surely if I had any autoimmune thyroid problems wouldn’t the Thyroid peroxidase pick it up ?
During that time I also had undiagnosed celiac disease so not sure if that could have caused the antibody level seen in my result . My TSH has always been in range . Now I’m gluten free and managed my celiac disease I wanted to do a full thyroid panel to see if it’s ok as I have many lumps in the front of my throat so was just wondering if my doctor only checked for Thyroid Peroxidase is that ok and would it tell me if I have autoimmune issues with my thyroid or is Thyroglobin antibodies needed ?

over 2 decades ago when still having problems with hypothyroidism I did a private test to see what antibodies were doing…TPO very low in range but TgAb well over c.800…so yes can have the ‘other’ only being abnormal so need to test both.
Lots of people have low TPOab but high TgAB. Myself, my TPOab were only just over-range but the TgAB were in their thousands.
I've often wondered why one and not the other, but have found no answers. However, after years of reading on forums and looking at other peoples lab results, I have this theory that TPOab are highest when you have Hashi's, but TgAB are high with Ord's. Obviously, no scientific data to back that up, but that's the way it seems to me.
Thanks for the response . TgAB is high with Ord’s ? What is that ? I know by hashi’s you mean hashimotos but could not figure out what ords is . Do you mind explaining plz
Ord's is Autoimmune Thyroiditis, same as Hashi's. The difference is that with Hashi's you have a goitre, and with Ord's your thyroid shrivels up, no goitre. But the results are the same.
