I just wanted to give an update as I’ve been a lurker on this forum for a while. Good news is that I’ve finally had a consultation with a Private Thyroid specialist and have paid for more blood tests and a full report and treatment plan and prescription for meds (that my GP refused to even acknowledge were necessary).
As I have Hashimotos with pretty severe hypothyroidism symptoms I have been prescribed Armor NDT, FT3 and suggested to have a thyroid scan.
I have also been recommended to start the AIP diet and eliminate gluten and dairy.
I’m low in Vit D, have high ferritin due to NAFLD and Type 2 diabetes and oddly have high B12 too even though I don’t supplement. I’ve been recommended to take loads of other supplements too and work on my gut and liver health.
i feel vindicated that I have finally found someone who can help treat me after years of being dismissed by the NHS.
I’m sure I will have more questions regarding my prescription and dosage etc but I just wanted to say to those of you who are struggling, keep going! You will find the help you need eventually!
I’m so relieved and ready to tackle this!
All the best! Xx

For those who are interested this is a summary of blood test results.
Oddly my TSH was 3.85 in February and it has now dropped to 0.78!?
My TPO has also reduced from 324 in October 23.
I stopped taking all supplements about a month before having blood tests Platium Thyroid package through Blue Horizon and I’ve not taken anything since. My fatigue has got worse and my gut health is all over the place.
Anyway, at least I have a starting point now and I’m going to monitor my symptoms once I’ve ordered my meds and switched up my diet. Wish me luck!
The predominance of Hashimoto thyroiditis represents an interesting finding, since it has been indirectly confirmed by an Italian study, showing that autoimmune thyroid disease is a risk factor for the evolution towards NCGS in a group of patients with minimal duodenal inflammation. On these bases, an autoimmune stigma in NCGS is strongly supported
In summary, whereas it is not yet clear whether a gluten free diet can prevent autoimmune diseases, it is worth mentioning that HT patients with or without CD benefit from a diet low in gluten as far as the progression and the potential disease complications are concerned
Despite the fact that 5-10% of patients have Celiac disease, in my experience and in the experience of many other physicians, at least 80% + of patients with Hashimoto's who go gluten-free notice a reduction in their symptoms almost immediately.
Similarly few months later consider trying dairy free too.
Approx 50-60% of hashimoto’s patients find dairy free beneficial
With loads of vegan dairy alternatives these days it’s not as difficult as in the past
Majority of Hashimoto’s patients test negative for coeliac…..but approx 80% of those who test negative actually find when they trial strictly gluten free diet they see symptoms reduce, often significantly.
Sorry for late reply. I don’t come on much. So to answer your questions; I’m not Coeliac, my B12 is very high as I my ferritin so I don’t take B vits. Although my private Thyroid Dr has recommended B1 Thiamine. The book I’m reading by Dr Isabella Wentz recommends B6 too so I will try that
Igennus B complex popular option. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose and may need separate methyl folate couple times a week
Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg)
Post discussing how biotin can affect test results
Thanks SlowDragon, ah that’s really interesting! I never knew that. So if I started taking a good multi B vitamin supplement do you think my B12 would actually reduce and my folate levels improve? I’ll check out the links.

Thanks for your reply. I wasn’t taking any meds with these blood results.
My Vit D is always low. Even when taking 4000ius per day it still never gets about 93.
As per my reply above, I stopped taking all my supplements before getting my bloods done so my private Thyroid Dr had a baseline. I’ve yet to reintroduce any.
t’s a journey! Lol I’m now currently on 30mg of NDT and about to have my follow up bloods after 8 weeks. I feel I have more energy but still lots of symptoms and not 100% so not sure if that’s due to not following the diet properly, lack of correct supplements, no exercise, Type 2 Diabetes symptoms or Peri-Menopause 😬🤦🏽♀️ I will send an updated post once I get my next bloods back. Thank you!
I was taking so much before I had my recent blood tests! I had no idea what made a difference and what didn’t, was also wondering if I was damaging my liver and even absorbing properly due to the Hashimotos low stomach acid?
