Might anyone be able to suggest which of my other meds has affected my thyroid med uptake (100mcg thyroxine and 2x5mcg t3)?
I was prescribed digoxin, furosemide and bisoprolol after having open heart surgery 3 mths ago to resolve some anatomical defects. Uptil that point thyroid levels were stable and optimal. My routine supplements ie vit d/k, vit b12/folate and chondroitin/ glucosamine were discontinued in hospital and thereafter when warfarin added to the mix. My thyroid levels were optimal during this 3 mth period (medichecks) and so were my nails (good barometer). I’m now on same cardiac meds but have aspirin (coated) instead of warfarin and have reinstated former supplements partic glucosamine because osteoarthritis in knee and hip has become so painful. I’ve also restarted cancer meds (palbociclib and denosumab) in addition to letrazole and calcium taken continuously. However I’ve suddenly put on 6lb weight in past week and my nails keep breaking. Can anyone please suggest the likely culprit that’s affecting my thyroid uptake without having to fund more blood tests to prove the change in t3/t4 levels? I’m in limbo regarding cardiac follow up and when I saw endocrinologist a few weeks back I was optimal and won’t be seeing him again for a year.

I restarted the sublingual vitd/k and the chewable b12/folate after breakfast. Don’t do full b complex as it didn’t agree with me though dobt know which part
hi Julia- I asked my pharmacist hubby to weigh in and he provided this attached photo and suggests you speak with your pharmacists to run your meds through a drug interaction program since we are all such complex pts. My hubby wanted to better understand if your wt gain was fluid? Perhaps adjust lasix(furosomide) I am sure an in person pharmacist could be more helpful but I wanted to do what I ccould as you have always been helpful for me.
Make sure you tap on the image to open it so you can see that it says “ using calcium carbonate with…” that part is cut off unless you open the picture… l
Thankyou Bettybuckets - yes I take the calcium last thing at night well away from the thyroxine. So many meds, maybe one affects another that then affects the thyroxine. I do pine for the days 4 yrs ago when I only needed thyroxine and inhaler. I almost need two (4 section) daily pill boxes now to hold this poly pharmacy. I was thinking last night that these symptoms could also be related to restarting of palbo after 5 mth break as if going through that initial 2-3 mths as as a palbo novice. And the weight could be furosemide as you say. I might reevaluate my miserly tendencies and pay for the blood test to check thyroid levels - slightly more definitive. And will refer myself back for medic input to change anything if relevant … But to which speciality…..?
Me too regarding 4 years ago I only took celebrex daily for what I thought was creeping old age arthritis pain… was actually Mets to bone. But I did remember starting ibrance in the beginning and then feeling yuck.. tired snd mouth sores so I betca going from a lovely 5 month break to restarting would do a lot. Maybe ask our universe if anyone had finger nail changes when they started Ibrance. Are you in Canada? Or other social med place? Why will you have to pay to get tested?
How were your nails previously while taking the cancer meds?
I don't know what the side effects are of these that you are taking, but oftentimes any cells that normally have a high rate of growth will be adversely affected. Mucous membranes, nails, hair etc.
hi gabkad, Thankyou for replying. In the past few months without cancer meds and supplements I’ve had the best nails. Prior to stopping palbociclib 5 mths ago they were ok ie didn’t split/break too much, and can’t remember what they were like on first starting palbo 3 yrs ago. My diary only recorded the more profound side effects ie increased bowel activity but maybe my concern about nails was attributed to thyroid not palbo. Just can’t remember.
