Following recent suggestion to get thyroid peroxide antibodys tested. My result has come back as raised. 133.9 u/ml range < 60

total 25 - hydroxyvitamin d level 55 nmol/L

Vitamin b12 507 Ng/L ref range( 180 -900)

Folate 15.2 ug/L range. > 3.0

Serum cholesterol 7 nmo/L

I've today had a text message from my doctors saying about taking 200mcg of selenium which I can purchase over the counter. I haven't had my selenium level checked yet tho .

Does this mean I have hashimotos ?

yes high TPO antibodies confirms cause of your hypothyroidism is autoimmune

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

What vitamin supplements are you taking

No ferritin result

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high TPO and/or high TG thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

vitamin D

GP will often only prescribe to bring vitamin D levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly when supplementing

Can test via NHS private testing service

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function.

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7.

One spray = 1000iu

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with thyroid issues we frequently need higher dose than average

. Thanks for your reply SlowDragon yes I done the thyroid peroxide antibodys test as suggested on my other post. I feel like such an idiot I could have found this out ages ago if I looked into it sooner. I put my trust in my gp at least 6 months ago and asked for antibodys test for thyroid but obviously wasn't the rite one. So yes this confirms its hashimotos then. With regards to my previous post you suggested as my T3 /T4 ratio was different does this confirm why because of the tpo antibodys ?

These are my previous results only a few weeks ago

Tsh 1.7 mu/l. Ref 0.55-4.78)

Free t4 15.5 pmol ref. (11.5-22.7)

Free T3. 5.5. Pmol. Ref. ( 3.5-6.5)

Serum ferritin 35 ug/l ( 15-300)

Serum iron level. 21 umol/l ( 10-30)

Serum transferring 3.1 g/l. (2.0-4.0)

Transferrin saturation index 27%. (20.0-50.0)

Currently taking magnesium byglycinate capsules by love life supplements one a day but thinking maybe I should take more.

Liquid b12 By veridian

Liquid B complex by veridian

I didn't realise until recent how important vitamin d is and doctor never said I should be supplementing so I've just bought vitamin d3 & K2 spray ( brand good health naturally )

I've ordered the three arrows iron supplement as suggested on one of the links on here. Meanwhile I have been taking what the doctor gave me ferrous fumerate. I think from previous post ferritin was just under

30 ug/l so hasn't raised much.

Can I ask what does the selenium do and why my doctor has told me to take this ?

Having bloods done tomorrow to check selenium levels .

Would gluten free diet be advisable for hashis ?

I am still currently taking 75 mg levothyroxine as stated before the doctor won't up my dose. Would you suggest this is something that needs doing is to raise my dose ?

Many thanks

Selenium supposed to help manage thyroid disease

Good level is being tested - your Dr is very thorough

Thanks for your reply. Not sure how selenium works to manage thyroid disease. Has anyone mentioned this on the forum and any links to the benefits of selenium ? Good level of what ? I guess I've had to push for some of these blood tests as my GP would never have tested T3 and T4 and antibodys unless I asked for it. They didn't even agree to it at first I had to keep asking so to a degree I don't believe my GP to be always thorough

Loads of members take selenium especially if eyes are affected
