Would an iodine supplement help?

I still don't feel well (very tired and the most dreadful brain fog which has stopped me driving) and wondered how I would know if an iodine supplement might help? Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

stopped taking b12 liquid 2 weeks before test.

Is that just B12

Are you taking a daily vitamin B complex too

You only need to stop vitamin B complex 5-7 days before test

You could phase out separate B12 and just take daily B complex

Now your Active B12 level is over 70 you could reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week

Low folate

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

healthline.com/nutrition/fo...

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid supplements

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus B complex popular option. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose

Post discussing different B complex

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12

Are you now on gluten free and/or dairy free diet

Or have you at least tried both?

How much vitamin D are you taking

Look at getting at least over 80nmol

And are you taking magnesium supplement too

Thank you for replying. Taking 3 drops of nutri advanced D3 with K2 (1000iu) and Nature Provides b12. Have tried Thorne Basic B but didn’t feel good on that with the vit d, yet seem to tolerate both ok on their own - had strange sensation in neck and very spaced out. Will try increasing D. I have some Better You magnesium which I use a couple of times a week. Perhaps it is B vits I need…

Been dairy free for a couple of weeks to try but nothing noticeable. Not gluten free but have tried before - worth trying again. Had wondered if anyone benefited from iodine.

Try Igennus B complex

Small tablets you can cut in half or 1/4 to start slowly

couple weeks later

Try adding 4th drop vitamin D

If you eat fish and not long time vegan unlikely iodine deficient

Recommend you test before considering it

Genova Diagnostics for iodine test

Urine Iodine Test:

Specimen requirements: Urine

Cost: £76

Order Code: END25

Turnaround time: 5 - 10 days

Iodine is an essential trace element, vital for healthy thyroid function. Adequate levels are required to enable the production of T3 and T4 thyroid hormones, whilst also being required in other areas of health.

Deficiencies can lead to impaired heat and energy production, mental function and slow metabolism. Urine iodine is one of the best measures of iodine status. This test is not performed as a loading test, but can be used to establish existing levels or to monitor iodine supplementation.

Thank you - I will try those. I thought Vit D was still too low so will up dose. Don't eat much fish but eat eggs., though will try to eat more. Not my favourite. Mother had Graves and NAFLD so need to be mindful I think, especially with thyroid antibodies.
