Managed to get full blood test results this morning via an E mail from my Endo's secretary and was surprised by Vit D result .....49 nmol/L. 50 - 250 L
Indicates insufficiency. This was taken in March.
Can someone suggest a good Vit D supplement and how much to take please?
Folate was 20 ( 4.6 - 20) B12 450 ( 180 - 900) looks like I need to take my B12 methylcobalamin every day again ?... Had only been taking it spasmodically.
Will welcome any advice especially on Vit D
Am on 75mcgs Levo + 10mcgs T3 as a result of tests - since March.
Marfit, if you're able to get in the sun for a few hours a week 2,000iu daily should be sufficient but if not 5,000iu daily will fill up your tank. After a couple of months 2.000iu should be a good maintenance dose. Solgar and Now Foods softgels have been good for me. Both available via Amazon (please use the pinned TUK affiliate link).
I wouldn't have known this result ...it was because my GP only received my TSH,FT4 and FT3 results which had been acted upon thankfully, hence the T4/T3 combo,I decided to approach Endo's secretary as I'd had a lot of tests.I must say she was very quick in sending me an E mail with all my results. I need as much help as I can get to ease the joint pain.
I do like to keep my own records....it's the only way to chart progress.
.....all a part of the digging for answers as you had previously said.x
Remember that VitD is fat soluble....! Also when we are over 50 the absorption and metabolism of the UVB rays on the skin and the manufacture of D are slowed down....and less efficient.
B12 needs to be around 900 as only 20% of the result is available to be used at a cellular level where it is needed. This information is on the website
Takes at least 3 months for levels to come up - of course we are all different - and especially as you have good weather at the moment - it may take less
Am feeling fine - just a pesky back ! Busy with guests - so have to be on top form to be the cleaning lady et al !! Just having a sit in between ironing loads of Egyptian cotton - in the heat !!
Thank you - backs ? I think it is something we all seem to have to deal with. Had surgery in 2007 in Germany - had to sign for the nerve damage that would be inevitable. At least I can still walk - but am best off on the floor doing yoga.... xx
I use the Biotics Research bio D mulsion forte (2000iu per drop). I found that I didn't absorb soft gels (or something), but my levesl started to go up when I got the drops.- not cheap, but a bottle lasts nearly a year.
Thanks for your reply.....have actually sent for some Solgar soft gel capsules, however, have made a note of the drops just in case I need another option,so thanks for that.
