So after my last posts about the gp prescribing me a antihistamine which I have recived today...( Fexofenadine Hydrochloride) I assume the gp wants me to take this antihistamine with my thyroid medication 🤔 although she never actually said this🤷♀️.Maby she's thinks the antihistamine will help me stomach the T4 teva thyroid medication
So I need to ask some members more familiar with taking antihistamine tablets and thyroid medication
Can I take them together?
Do I take the antihistamine first then the T4 thyroid medication?
One thing I've looked up the ingredients and it says... Cellulose, MANNITOL, maze starch, croscarmellose, sodium, colloidal, anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate.
Pink film coating : opadry pink film coating containing hypromellose (E464) titanium dioxide (E171) macroglo 400, ALLURA RED, A lake (FD&C RED#40) (E129) and iron oxide back (E172).
Good god..😳.. Firstly I have a reaction to mannitol 🤦♀️ and when I was given the vitamin D tablets from gp they were ALLURA red, then I tried the brilliant blue, then the yellow ones, with the same gastric effects, I had to discontinued them.
I'm unsure these antihistamine tablets will help me, the ingredients alone look scary.. 😳😳😳

Thanks slowdragon, no not got the vencamil yet, as again it was hard to actually speak to the gp🤦♀️... But what's frightening me is the mannitol and the allure red, I've had side effects to both these ingredients 🤦♀️.I would like the gp to be awear the thyroid medication containing mannitol gave me bad gastric effects, honestly I feel great gut and stomach wise at the moment it's heaven actually keeping my food in and not having cramps inflammation and diarrhea.
As the teva contains mannitol already, that's why I've discontinued them (because of the gastric issues) I really can't see how taking a antihistamine WITH mannitol in will be ok🤦♀️ I flipping know it won't!!!.So I can dismiss taking the antihistamine and teva together that's double mannitol in one sitting... Good god I'd blow my backside out😂 I was bad enough on the teva😞
You know these gps just don't listen, I asked her about the ingredients of the antihistamine, she was adamant there was nothing in them that would effect my gastric problems, but yet she knows the reason I can't stomach the teva is because of MANNITOL.. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️defo not taking them, I will convey this message to the gp and insist I get all thyroid bloods done along with the other ones you mentioned slowdragon.
Also she is looking into another endocrinologist appointment for me, I've stated please try sending me to an actual thyroid specialist and not a diabetes one.... I'm not diabetic 👍
I don't know much about anti histamines other than I have just bought some to see if it has any effect on food intolerance... but the ones I have just bought don't have some of those nasties... they have others I'm not too sure about though 🤷♀️
I had a bad effect to mannitol in my thyroid medication, and I'm lactose intolorent with ulcerative colitis 🤷♀️ I fear this antihistamine tablets will be just as bad😞
I tried speaking to the gp on Thursday but we're unable to.. 🤦♀️ NHS eh... 🤷♀️ So now knowing what these antihistamine tablets contain I'm going to ask the receptionist to see if the gp can prescribe the vencamil to see how I get on with them until I get the endo appointment, makes more sense to try one tablet the vencamil than taking 2 to see if one works, honestly what is my gp thinking of😔
Possibly worth having a conversation with the pharmacist (who are far more knowledgeable) to see what is actually available and then 'tell' the GP 😬 I've had to do this in the past
Yeah but it as mannitol in it, so does the teva t4😔 that's why I can't stomach it, that's why I was angry the endo put me back on it, fully knowing I was intolorent to it.. She put that in her report.. Intolorent to T4, T3 eventho they are lactose free I still have trouble stomaching them, so specialist said it could be the fillers especially mannitol, but I'm putting her back on teva t4... How nuts!!!Going to ask for the vencamil see how I fare on that till I see endo 👍
It's usually best to take the antihistamine first, to give it time to get into your system ready to take effect. Then take the levo. Half an hour gap is enough for me.
If the fexofenadine has mannitol in it, and you have a reaction to mannitol in Teva levo, then definitely don't take the fexo and levo at the same time. Fexofenodine + Teva levo would be a double dose of mannitol!
Just a thought, I was put on a special type of antihistamine after getting chronic urticaria. However I’ve looked at the ingredients and there is no lactose from what I can see.
It says: 20mg of Bilastine (that’s the antihistimine), cellulose microcrystalline, sodium starch glycolate type A (derived from potato), colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate.
It comes under the name of Ilaxten, its general description is like all other antihistamines. I was told it was one of the newer ones with a better tolerability. If there is a side affect to something I’m likely to get it and I was fine on this. You must take it an hour before food so I take it with my thyroid meds in the morning with no issues.
It's the mannitol in this one that's putting me off, because the T4 also contains mannitol I have always had a bad gastric reaction to it tried it 3 times now with the same out come, endo even put in her report I was intolorent to T4, T3 teva... But put me back on teva t4 anyway 😞.
I'd rather try the vencamil, no lactose or mannitol in them, I really can't understand why the endo never recommend it as she knows I'm lactose intolorent and have ulcerative colitis.
