Blood Results Advice

hi there,

please can you help me I had my bloods taken about a month ago as I was having heart palpitations and extreme fatigue. I have also been attending a chiropractor over a year and he discovered I have a intolerance to gluten, grains choc and caffeine. I am off all those things over three months now and my migraines are certainly improving and my dizziness vertigo.

I thought I would reduce my t3 last week as I know stopping gluten can help absorb thyroid medication better. I was taking 75 mg Levothyroxine and 10 mg liothyronine split into 5mg twice a day.

These are my blood results:

B12 : 942 Range 197-771

Folate :19.9 Range 3.9-26.8

Ferritin : 79 Range 13-150

Magnesium : 0.91 Range 0.7-1

potassium : 9 Range 3.5-5.3

Sodium : 140 Range 133-140

TSH : 0.02. range 0.27-4.2

T4 : 17.6. Range 12-22

T3 : 4.1 Range 3.1-6.8

many thanks 😊

Your results haven't really changed much in 6 months other than your vitamins that are now looking much better. You're clearly supplementing.

Really happy that gluten free eating is helping you. It helps so many people with Hashi's. Have you also tried dairy free?

Free T4 (fT4) 17.6 pmol/L (12 - 22) 56.0%

Free T3 (fT3) 4.1 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) 27.0%

Looking at your free hormone results you are fairly under replaced. Many people need both FT4 & FT3 at around 70% of their ranges so you have room for a 5mcg T3 increase.

No D3 result?

hi Jaydee,

Thank you so much for getting back to me I really appreciate it.

I maybe did the wrong thing reducing my t3 the heart palpitations scared me, I have not seen my endocrinologist in a year. I haven’t tested vitamin d in five years. I was taking vitamin c , vitamin d3 spray and probiotic. I saw my Kinesiologist in February and she told me I have leaky gut/ brain so was to stop vitamin d, probiotic iron and to take glutamine , b complex and vitamin c.

Glutamine a teaspoon has helped my brain a little. I do think I should maybe go back on the ferrous fumurate.

Yes stopping gluten and grains has really helped the migraines. I took rhubarb and custard sweets this week and have migraine up to today so there must be something in them. I am trying to take magnesium as Kinesiologist said I need it. I am ok with Dairy so far.

Hope you are keeping well and how long did stopping gluten take for you to feel well? Many thanks .

I think your low FT3 was causing those palps so yes you needed to go the other way and add 5 mcgs T3. Add bsck in the 5mcgs you took out then 2 weeks later if all is well add the extra 5mcgs T3. Adding T3 will help your brain more than glutamine.

I'm not sure why you would need not to take D3 with a leaky gut. If you were using the mouth spray it avoids the gut anyway so best get that tested to find out how much to take. Buy one with K2 to help it go to the bones. Use this calculator to work out how much to take to get your level to 100-150. wildatlantichealth.com/vita...

Your ferritin isn't terrible so just focussing on iron rich foods should help get that up further.

Eating sweets mean extra sugar which can be inflammatory in some. Also feeds bad bacteria in your gut.

'Felling well' is a combination of many factors. I'm gluten, dairy & soy free and still adjusting my combination of T4/T3. The benefits of being gluten free can show in as little as a few weeks or could be a few months.

yes I will start taking the t3 today in the afternoon as I usually take it about 3pm. I would be scared to take anymore as can that not cause heart palpitations too much?

Yes I couldn’t understand why she said I didn’t need vitamin d as I find I need it I was using the better be spray with k2.

My chiropractor says it might take a few more months to feel well. I did stupidly take gluten free choc at Easter, I felt like I was going to faint and it took three weeks to get it out of my system.

You are amazing going off all that and brave as I know only too well myself going off gluten and caffeine the peer group pressure is intense as people want you to eat what they are taking. I hope you continue to improve as all we want is to feel well.😊

With your FT3 at 27% of its range (and FT4 at 56%) then you are in no danger of taking too much T3 if you added another 5 mcgs once you get back to 10mcgs split.

Eating out is sometimes a challenge for me its true but after a while you get used to peer pressure and so many restaurants, cafes are pretty good with food choices and adapting their menues these days.

I know I definitely not do without t3 I thought maybe I could stop thyroid meds eventually though I guess it’s too soon yet. I am off alcohol three years also think my friends think I’m strange as one of my friends said half the country has thyroid problems why are u never well. I just need to say to myself gluten is poison as I watch others eating anything they want and they are so well. It is certainly a learning curve..

I am starting therapeutic yoga the group is called Yara it’s to do with Ayurveda they are so helpful.

A hypothyroidism diagnosis is for life. Have you ever had your thyroid antibodies tested? if you have autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's your thyroid gland is slowly destroyed and will never be able to make enough thyroid hormone for your body to work.

I cannot recommend stopping treatment at any point.

It's very annoying seeing others eat whatever they want but you know yourself how certain things make you feel. You have to be strong to be kind to yourself.

Yes you are right we know next what’s good for us and what isn’t .😊
