Updated blood test results- is hypo the cause of my symptoms?

This blood test was taken at 9.15am.

I had a previous blood test in February with a private GP, who suggested that thyroxine levels were depleting as TSH was slightly raised.

Initial blood test (taken at 9am): TSH 4.28, free T3 4.6, free T4 15.6. So it seems like my results have improved since then.

I have a lot of symptoms of hypothyroidism (exhaustion, lethargy, weight gain, dry skin, brittle and ridged nails, constipation, carpal tunnel) but clinically, my results are normal. I'm wondering whether I should pursue monitoring, or just assume I'm not approaching subclinical hypothyroidism? The symptoms are making my life very difficult and I'm keen to find out the root cause.

I'm taking supplements for iron, vit d, magnesium, folate, b vits. Also recently started taking Tyrosine, which actually seems to give me a real boost- not sure if that's a long term solution though.

Thank you.

We could be more certain about things if you had positive antibodies. A small percentage of autoimmune hypothyroid people never do show positive antibodies on blood tests which is obviously frustrating.

Levels in early hypothyroidism do fluctuate so it's not really surprising that yours have improved although a TSH of over 3 is a sign your thyroid is struggling to keep up with what your body needs.

Recommend retesting using same protocol of 9am, fasting bloods every 3-4 months.

Also keep up taking the supplements as they will improve some symptoms.

You could also get an ultrasound of your thyroid to see if there is any damage to it.

Thanks Jaydee. Is it possible that it is a non-autoimmune hypothyroid issue or thyroid is struggling due to other issues?

It's very hard to tell. You could get a private ultrasound which might show damage to your thyroid.
