Stopping medication

Hi everyone, I am really desperate with what to do next as nothing works for me. I was finally getting NDT and had so much expectation from it. I was fine for few days and then my stomach started to hurt that bad that I couldn't bed down. I email my specialist and ask what to do . He said to stop and order sintetic levothyroxine I think eltroxine or something like that. I monitor my blood pressure, pulse and temperature. As to start my basal temperature start to raise up to 36.44 the higher one . I am usually 35.8 or even less that that. I could sleep OK at night but it didn't do nothing to my burning feet or I didn't give it a fair chance to work. I was on half a grain twice a day. I did leave the gap food and apart from being a bit sweaty nothing else so generally I was OK until my tummy problems. I did try what I had in the house no luck. I thought I am not well with and perhaps I can be better with sintetic. That was a fast switch only waited about 3 days and start on 25mg of levothyroxine. From the first pill I started being OK with myself, temperature going up,going to sleep OK but my familiar sense of sickness after pills came back. I thought at first it may be due to supplements I take.

Vit B 50mg P5P

Folate 400mg

Omeprazole

Vit B1 250mg

Both Vit B1,B6 deficient.

I thought I need to stop anything else apart of levothyroxine to see how it is and give it a fair chance. Every day I was worse still am. Food coming back burning behind my throat, dry mouth and funny taste in my mouth inability to swallow anything, irritating throat and painful, stomach gurgling after everything I ate or pill, bloating nauseous and burping. I did stopped Omeprazole of course that was taking far from my pill like 6 hrs. Betaine didn't work so I email the Dr and asked him what is wrong and what to do. He said to stop and sort of my stomach problems.

Now I don't know where to start as anything I take I mean everything make me nauseous . I did stop and symptoms were settling down a lot but 3 days after. Now I thought on starting with probiotic first I took pure encapsulations Pro flora 5 only half of capsule ,I have empty capsules I use but my symptoms came back and I feel really nauseous. I have something for that Motilium so I took that but no difference. I noticed that everything I take apart of food make my tummy rumbling again and I am really sick. I phone my surgery and they just give me another form of PPI medication that I didn't took as I am afraid i start again being sick. I know I need to take a break from everything to leave my stomach settle first but don't know what to start next. I know for sure some medication I have cannot give me this symptoms as I took them before but now everything hurts mh stomach.

I start crying every day as nothing takes away my feet pain so I am very very sad that i cannot find anything to take away my pain..my Dr surgery doesn't know what is causing this and I have done so many tests that narrow things down with what can it be but I feel like a crazy one because mh TSH is normal or no medication works for my stomach.

I had a chat with the gastroenterology where I had my endoscopy to tell them how bad I feel and what to take and they said oh is nothing serious there diagnosis was chronic duodenitis is just you know IBS nothing really serious. I do not know if by doing this they could see low acid or high acid but I doubt. Where to go what to do next I don't know.

This sickness I had this severe when I tried anticonceptional pills. I needed a week to be myself this bad I was.

I told Dr I had a a tummy surgery when I was young and is most likely I have low acid than high acid and he said is really not common to have that plus you wouldn't have heartburn. Is different from what ai read but there you go. I did try betaine and actually make me sick. I did try vinegar with water 3 times a day and actually felling bad from it. I know my stomach will settle down if I stop anything or at least this is what was doing before but I really need it to sort it out to give thyroid medication a good chance to see if works for my feet. I email the neurolog Profesor and told him about B1 and B6 deficiency and I am at the point that I cannot take pills and what he suggests. He said he will write a prescription for me for Milgamma na( Vit B1 and B6 only) 10 days injections. I am able to go there at some point in school holidays to do this as no one what to do it here. What else I can try after?

I had Clonazepam, Lyrica,Gabapentin for nerve pain but nothing helps. Antiinflamatory as well don't touch the pain.

I used to take Lanzoprazole in the past many years for a course of 7 days when I had indigestion but I never been this bad.

I could try grepfruit seed extract when I will feel better but really need to sort that duodenitis in a natural way first. I suspect low acid but here that test is very dear and cannot afford. Does anyone have any suggestion for me. Will try meanwhile marrow beef bone to heal my stomach also almonds I hear they good. I drink chamomile tea every day no much relied though. Thank you for reading this.

Mackenzie0,

You can't take betaine or even ACV with Omeprazole as they are doing the exact opposite jobs.

Many members have been prescribed PPI's when the real problem is low gastric acid caused by inadequate thyroid hormone. They have managed to wean off the PPI, optimise thyroid hormone and felt much better.

If you have low thyroid hormones they need replacing with meds that should help your gut motility and everything work better. Did you start the NDT low and slow?

I didn't take Omeprazole with betaine. Betaine was before 3 week after I tried Omeprazole when I stopped betaine.I start low and slow 25mg once a day early morning and no food after for couple of hrs.x

Mackenzie0,

If you have tapered off the PPI, it sounds as if you need to leave your gut to heal and not take anything likely to flare it. I found  glutamine, marshmellow root and slippery elm combo really helpful.

Yeah thinking the same it need time to heal. Is this combo as a pill? Not keen on pills rather prefer a tea sort of. Thanks

I took a powder combo years ago that contained these three but I can't remember what it was called. Glutamine is an amino acid that helps heal the gut. Marshmallow root and slippery elm are demulcents which means they act like a protective coating increase the mucosal lining, so the gut isn't as sore anymore.

So, to clarify, after a gluten-free diet, I didn't have digestive issues at all. Is when I start medication the problems started. I am diary free too and avoid fresh vegetables and fruits as they irritating my stomach and give me indigestion.

Mackanzie you may find that a slower approach to adding NDT helps. 23 days ago you posted that you were awaiting your NDT prescription. 3 weeks later you are taking a full grain per day. Generally the advice for taking it slow is a quarter grain for 1 week or 2 and then add a quarter grain every 2 weeks until you reach a total of a full grain per day. Though you can stop before you reach a full grain. Wait 6 weeks and do bloods.

Maybe a slower approach and maybe try different brands of NDT if you decide to try again.

Hi, I took half a grain a day not a full grain. Half a grain split in 2 doses morningand evening. Yes I could have take less as a quarter but the Dr said I need to do as he said and not change medication without his advice or else cannot advise anymore or help but I guess he wouldn't have to know really. I did what he asked me anyway .thank you for your input

Hi, Mackenzie! I take gabapentin in the morning and in the late evening. But it wasn’t until I started taking duloxitine (Cymbalta) with my gabapentin in the morning that I got more relief. My dentist told me about duloxitine which is marketed as an antidepressant can also relieve foot and leg pain caused by peripheral neuropathy which I’ve had for years. I hope you can find some relief soon.

I have no relief from Gabapentin at all. I know about antidepressants that can relieve nerve pain but haven't have any success so far with it. I have 2 new sorts in the house but haven't yet taken any as yet. Just started today some of B vitamin( B1 and B12) under tounge and folate same form . Don't want to be super optimistic about but I think I had a sort of relief from the first dose. Normally I take B6 as P5P but because of my stomach don't want to push things further and i don't have the drops yet.I had taken Gabapentin in the past for few years( same kind of burning but on different part of the body)and had to go to higher dose to feel a relief but not this time. I will when settle down the stomach to take antidepressants as I do have them from my Dr but now I am very caution with pills. Thank you for your input. What is causing you peripheral neuropathic pain? Xx
