Blood Results

Morning,

I would appreciate some advice again please-it has been a while, and just refreshing my memory about results.

I have Hashimoto's-and am on 100 mg of Levothyroxine.

My recent bloods were borderline again-

TSH- 4.3 (0.27-4.2)

FT4-25.6(12-22)

No other tests were requested on my blood, but from previous testing I know my T3 will be approximately 3- which is bottom if not under range.

I take Propranolol for migraines which I have been told on here and by Endocrinology that this interferes with FT4 conversion to active T3.

I take Vit D, and B and B12 supplements as advised on here, and did the correct protocol, leaving these out 7 days before my blood draw, (B and B12), and did not take the Levo until after my early morning blood test.

Symptoms that I have are having no energy say climbing a hill and run out of steam with a task that is short term gruelling, if that makes sense- other than that I feel okay.

I would like to know the following things please, will the doctor want me to increase my Levo to 150 mg? I believe that this will do nothing to lower my FT4 and help convert FT4 to T3- forgive me if I have that incorrect?

Apart from giving up my Propranolol which I know is an option, is there anything else that the doctor will suggest, or that I can suggest to him, as I am not really sure which result he will be more bothered about the TSH- ( it has hovered around 3-4 for the past couple of years) or the FT4- and is it the FT4 that is causing my short term crash with arduous tasks?

Thanks for any help,

You have Hashimoto’s

Are you currently on gluten free diet and/or dairy free diet

If not get coeliac blood test done BEFORE trialing gluten free

Migraine is common hypothyroid symptom

You should be able to SLOWLY reduce propranolol over 3-4 months

How much propranolol are you currently taking

Propranolol must be reduced EXTREMELY slowly, especially on levothyroxine

Personally I found I could tolerate reducing by 5mg …..waiting 3-6 weeks…..then reducing by next 5mg etc

I was on 4 x 10mg propranolol per day almost 20 years

Going gluten free was key for me ……I then took 3-4 months reducing and eventually stopping propranolol completely

Thank you.

Pretty sure I have been tested for Coeliac and its negative.

I am on a slow release propranolol, I think you have advised me on this before- its 80 mg. which I know is a high dosage.

I have tried gluten free- it did not make much difference, but thank you.

As long as I wont be pushed into having more Levo as I know that this is not the answer.

Am guessing the key for me will be to reduce my Propranolol.

So you will need to change to 4 x 20mg propranolol per day and then can cut down slowly, using pill cutter or sharp craft scalpel

How long did you try gluten free. Did you see TPO antibodies reduce on GF diet

Okay, thank you.

I must have tried it for about 6 months or more, and no I did not see TPO antibodies reduced as have only had one test for antibodies which led to the Hashimoto's diagnosis.
