Had Hashimotos since 2008. Never felt well so after all these years, decided to try Tiromel to see if it makes a difference. Started off with quarter of a tab (1 week) then half a tab (2 weeks) & today started on a full one. Too early to tell if will make a difference. Also started SI vit b12 EOD with co factors around the same time. Take the following supplements, vit d3, mag malate & mag glycinate, vit k2, milk thistle, folic acid. Biotin & omega 3 fish oil. I'm also gluten free.

I do suffer from digestive issues which is mostly a lot of gas & every 8 -10 weeks suffer really badly from pains in my back causing loud burping & gas from the other end too. I find it quite debilitating, can't really do much during the time it lasts which is about 5 days. Eat very little & just drink water. I'm awaiting a colonoscopy, endoscopy & stomach scan since last October. In that time, I've had 4 or 5 episodes.

I live in Spain so they only prescribe one drug and it's Euthyrox (as far as I know).

I am taking 75 mcg Euthyrox, 25 mcg Tiromel

My latest results from March:-

TSH - 2.178 FREE T4 - 1.45 FREE T3 2.86 VIT B12 - 246 Range 211 - 911 FOLIC ACID - 6.32

How long would it normally take for one to feel better from adding T3.

Sorry for long post & thanks for listening.

Started off with quarter of a tab (1 week) then half a tab (2 weeks) & today started on a full one.

Always advised here is to only increase by 1/4 of a tablet at a time. As you only started on a full tablet today I would suggest that from tomorrow you go down to 3/4 of a tablet. This is because a very small increase can make a lot of difference. I actually got up to 31.25mcg when I added T3 to my Levo (over a long time) but I have since found that fine tuning and very gradual tweaking that I actually do well enough on just 12.5mcg.

So if you start 3/4 of a tablet tomorrow I would then hold that for 8 weeks then retest before making any further adjustment.

How long would it normally take for one to feel better from adding T3.

It can take years to find the correct dose but it's not just T3, you need to ensure that all nutrients are at optimal levels for any thyroid hormone to work.

Optimal levels are

Vit D - 100-150nmol/L (or 40-60ng/L)

B12 - top of range for Total B12, if testing Active B12 then 100 plus

Folate - at least half way through range

Ferritin - half way through range although some experts say the optimal level for thyroid function is 90-110ug/L

TSH - 2.178 FREE T4 - 1.45 FREE T3 2.86 VIT B12 - 246 Range 211 - 911 FOLIC ACID - 6.32

Have you got the reference ranges for these results please so that we can interpret them, ranges differ from lab to lab so we need your ranges that came with your results to understand them.

Your TSH is obviously too high because when on Levo only most hypo patients feel best when TSH is 1 or below with FT4 and FT3 in the upper part of their ranges.

Take the following supplements, vit d3, mag malate & mag glycinate, vit k2, milk thistle, folic acid. Biotin & omega 3 fish oil.

It looks like your B12 is very low, you should be tested for B12 deficiency and pernicious anaemia, you may need a stand alone B12 supplement or B12 injections, and you would then add in a B Complex.

Why folic acid? Your result doesn't suggest deficiency but we can only be sure if you add the range and unit of measurement for this test.

Is there a particular need for Biotin?

Unless you have particular needs for folic acid and biotin then you may be better off with a good quality B Complex which will help keep all the B vitamins balance.

Have you got a recent result for Vit D? How much D3 do you take? We should test twice a year when supplementing.

Thank you so much for your very detailed reply. I did cut the Tiromel down & had 3/4 of a 25mcg tablet. Re ref/ranges/results for the following:- TSH 2.178 uUI/ml (0.350 - 5.500). Free T4 1.45 ng/dl (0.8 - 1.9). Free T3 2.86 pg/ml (1.4 - 4.4). Folic acid 6.32 ng/ml (5.38....) Endocrinologist here said my results are fine but I've had lots of b12 def symptoms so that's why I decided to SI. The reason I take folic acid is because a b12 group that I belong to advises if you're SI you need to take the co factors so that b12 works better. I take biotin because my hair was thinning a lot. I forgot to mention that I also take a B complex supplement. My vit d is optimal I think. It's 72 ng/ml I have been taking it for about 8 years now as at the beginning my level was only 17. I take 4000ug a day. Thanks again for taking the time to read my post.☺️

We need to be careful regarding Milk Thistle. This is one of my previous posts which explains the issues:
