Vitamin D not bad

How much do you supplement

Aiming for at least 80nmol and around 100nmol maybe better

Ferritin good

B12 and folate need improvement by supplementing

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid) may be beneficial.

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B or Jarrow B Right are recommended options that contains folate, but both are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

Low B12 symptoms

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a B12 supplement as well as a B Complex (to balance all the B vitamins) initially for first 2-4 months, then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

But as a vegetarian you may need to supplement B12 as well as vitamin B complex

Thank you for your reply. I don’t supplement vitamin D. That test was taken at the end of the summer. At the end of the winter is was 54. I’ll take another vitamin D test - I couldn’t find your link unfortunately. I’ll try and get the doctor to do it but if not, I’ll use your link. And perhaps it’s just easier to do it myself twice a year. I’ll also take a vitamin B complex plus a B12 and folate ( not folic). I’ll look through your posts to find the best ones. Just to clarify I stop taking all B vitamins 7 days before any tests. Then restart after the test.

What are sublingual lozenges?

Do you have a B complex you’d recommend, or have I missed it?

Thank you very much again.

You need to stop vitamin B complex a week before blood tests as it contains biotin (biotin is often used in lab test equipment)

You can carry on separate B12 ….you might want to consider taking separate folate daily just that week you stop vitamin B complex

NHS won’t test vitamin D more than once every 2 years

So most test via NHS private test

vitamindtest.org.uk

Or

Monitor My Health (also NHS private service)

As per my previous reply

Thorne Basic B or Jarrow B Right are recommended options that contains folate, but both are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

Both available online

B12 sublingual tablets. Put these under tongue….slowly dissolve

I have ordered the Jarrow for B complex and for B 12. I‘m now going to look for the D.

Should I have the vitamin D tested before having any vitamins?

No, you don’t need to retest as this was recent test

Perhaps try 2000iu vitamin D daily …..retest in 2-3 months

You might need higher or lower as maintenance dose

I have got my vitamin D now. Do I need to take it with magnesium? In the past I have found magnesium supplements give me a headache. From what I have read I should take vitamin D with a meal. Is an evening meal okay? The B12 I took this morning after breakfast.

The B complex hasn’t arrived. When is the best time to take it?

Thank you very much again indeed

I was thinking of this for the B12 but would only take half a dose. What do you think?
