The last few years I have experienced increasingly bad hypothyroid symptoms, then in July 2021 I went into thyrotoxicosis and became really unwell. I was signed off work and unable to do most things for myself. The last couple of months have been about rebuilding my stamina and phasing back into work, but I still experiencing the complete list of hypothyroid symptoms. Here are my latest blood test results via Thriva from October 2021:
TSH: 3.24mIU/L (0.37-4.2)
FT3: 4.8pmol/L (3.5-6.5)
FT4: 14.7pmol/L (11.5-22.7)
T4: 113nmol/L (66-181)
TPO AB: 39.4kIU/L (34<)
TgAB: 191.5kU/L (115<)
Vitamin D: 88nmol/L (50-200) (previously deficient at 24nmol/L in April and supplementing since)
Ferritin: 36ug/L (10-291) (recently started on liquid iron, rechecking levels shortly)
B12: 148pmol/L (37.5-150)
I have since seen a private doctor who specialises in thyroid treatment, and have been prescribed NDT 1/2 grain (30mg) daily which I will be starting soon. He has also asked me to follow the autoimmune paleo diet. Looking into it, it seems extremely limited and would be a huge overhaul to achieve. I have read conflicting evidence online over whether cutting out all these foods can actually help, and a lot of people trying to make money by “advising” you how to do it. It’s also extremely hard to tell which interventions are making a difference to how people feel, particularly if they are starting medication and a new diet alongside other lifestyle interventions at the same time as well.
I think what I’m after is to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation, done this diet themselves, and whether they felt it helped them or not. There is so much conflicting information out there!
If I am confident it is the right decision, I will commit 100% to the diet, but I think I need some reassurance first!
Thanks in advance, I have learned alot reading everyone’s posts the last few weeks.
